Hi, I'm Iana!

I am a postdoctoral researcher at FGV Sao Paulo Law School. I receveid my Ph.D. in Public Administration and Government from the Fundação Getulio Vargas’s Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP) in 2024. In my dissertation research, "The Political Technocracy: Political capacity and executive governance in multiparty presidential systems", I used grounded theory methods to understand the multiple roles of top-level political appointees for executive governance in Brazil. I received an MA and BA in Political Science from the Institute of Political Science, University of Brasilia (UnB).

I am currently a researcher at the Núcleo de Direito e Economia Política (NUDEP) and at Núcleo de Estudos da Burocracia (NEB - FGV). I was a Visiting Scholar at the UC Berkeley Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies in 2023 and at the Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies (CILAS) - University of California, San Diego during the 2017-2018 academic year.

My research interests are executive governance in presidential systems, bureaucracy, political elites, political appointments, public organizations, public policy, and research methodology (emphasis on qualitative research).

Thanks for visiting!
