We conduct an audit study by sending emails to admissions counselors, where the messages varied in the inclusion of gender pronouns in the signature line. The results indicate a higher response rate to emails that included preferred pronouns, with a response rate increase of approximately four percentage points, regardless of the type of pronoun used. We engage in text analysis to examine differences in replies and apply machine learning to identify key institution attributes predicting heterogeneous responses.
Puzzling Stress
In the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship, the top 30 seats in secondary rounds were given individual tables, while the rest of the field had to share. I exploit this cut-off in a Regression Discontinuity design to test the effects of being forced to share a table on performance.
