Having underperformed academically during my younger days, it feels quite surreal to have written an actual book. The boredom of long commutes - where it would usually have been quicker to get out and walk, provided fertile ground for creativity. Mentally exploring ideas while staring at the back of the vehicle in front became a daily ritual.
I've always been fascinated by time travel in stories, particularly some of the folklore surrounding time-slips. There are some fascinating accounts out there, and I wanted to create a story where time travel is used as a lens to explore themes of grief, legacy, and redemption. During the time of writing The Turning, I was experiencing a personal bereavement which shaped how I approached these themes within the book. This made the process both challenging and deeply meaningful.
