& Interviews
Over the years I have taught thousands of students, worked in education around the world, written books and songs, and experienced both hardship and blessings. These podcast conversations have allowed me to share stories from my journey—from growing up in a South Carolina mill village to earning three degrees from Clemson University, serving with Department of Defense Education Activity, raising a family, and discovering God's purpose along the way.
I hope these conversations encourage you, challenge you, and remind you that where you begin does not determine where you can go.

⚡ A Family Tree Marked by Triumph and Tragedy
Among my 80+ first cousins are stories of both hardship and perseverance. Five died violent deaths, one remains on death row, another is serving a life sentence, at least one struggles with homelessness and addiction, some have battled serious mental illness, two were born with Down syndrome, and many have lived with significant economic hardship. I do not share these facts to judge anyone, but to illustrate the circumstances from which many of us began. Their stories remind me that our starting point is not our destiny. Where we begin does not determine where we end.
Conversations Along the Way
'The Dr. T Show' Faith, Truth & Discernment
Christianity, Podcasts, Religion & Spirituality, Education, Self-Improvement
I had the privilege of sharing my journey from the cotton mill villages of South Carolina to earning a doctorate from Clemson University—a journey that demonstrates how faith, perseverance, and education can break generational cycles of poverty and hopelessness. Dr. T and I explored the profound influence of God's grace, the power of prayer, the importance of surrounding ourselves with godly people, and the difference between personal opinion and absolute truth rooted in Scripture. We discussed how every obstacle in life can become an opportunity for growth when we surrender our lives to God's purpose, and how education, discipline, and a relationship with Christ can transform not only an individual but future generations. Whether you are struggling to find direction, searching for hope, or simply seeking encouragement in your walk with God, this conversation offers practical wisdom and a reminder that your past does not determine your future. God's purpose is available to everyone willing to trust Him, and with faith, resilience, and His grace, even life's greatest challenges can become stepping stones to a meaningful legacy.
Come to Jesus with Mahal
In this special Father's Day episode of Come to Jesus, I share the story of a life shaped by faith, family, and perseverance. Growing up in the cotton mill communities of South Carolina, I was raised in a large, close-knit Southern family where money was often scarce, but love, hard work, laughter, and faith were abundant. We explore how those humble beginnings became the foundation for a life dedicated to education, service, and helping others discover their potential.
Our conversation follows my journey from being the first in my family to graduate from a major university to earning three degrees from Clemson University, including a Doctor of Education. Along the way, we discuss how Christian faith, discipline, and determination can transform not only one person's future but the trajectory of generations to come. As co-author of Born of Nothing: From White Trash and Lintheads to Purpose Across Generations, I reflect on the lessons learned through poverty, faith, education, and the enduring values passed down by my family. I also share one of the songs I wrote following my father's passing and the lasting legacy he left in my life. This episode is a heartfelt conversation about hope, purpose, and the conviction that where we begin in life never has to determine where we finish.

We discuss faith, family, hardship, redemption, and the moments that often seem ordinary until viewed through the lens of God's providence. Looking back, I can see that many of the most important chapters of my life were not the result of my own plans, but of doors God opened, people He placed in my path, and lessons He taught through both success and struggle.
