This session explores how artificial intelligence (AI) transforms advanced language instruction for ILR 2+/4 learners, offering innovative approaches to teaching high-level skills. Participants will learn to harness AI for crafting sophisticated questions, preambles, and model answers, fostering critical engagement with complex topics. The session also highlights AI-driven strategies for vocabulary expansion, exploring idiomatic expressions, and mastering advanced syntax. Educators will discover practical ways to integrate AI as a resource for generating challenging prompts, sourcing authentic materials, and enhancing teaching methodologies. By bridging technology and language education, this session empowers educators to elevate linguistic precision, fluency, and learner autonomy.
This session explores the powerful impact of ChatGPT on language education, highlighting its potential across written, auditory, and visual formats. I will demonstrate how ChatGPT enhances lesson planning, with examples from both widely taught Slavic languages such as Russian, as well as less-commonly taught ones like Czech and Slovak. By showcasing effective prompts for creating tailored educational content, I will address both language-specific and universal challenges, offering innovative solutions. Join me in exploring how AI can meet the evolving needs of educators and students in the classroom.
This research aims to investigate the use of AI to practice language, mainly using AI as a language partner to practice speaking. This study uses AI tools to explore the learner's interaction and engagement with AI agents. It adopts a mixed-method approach to record instances of the learner's cognitive, emotional, and behavioral engagement when interacting with AI agents. The implication of this research is to help learners of world languages improve their oral skills and understand learners' engagement with AI assistants.
