The song was first released in 1973 on The Wailers' album Burnin'. Marley explained his intention as follows: "I want to say 'I shot the police' but the government would have made a fuss so I said 'I shot the sheriff' instead... but it's the same idea: justice."[2]

In 2012, Marley's former girlfriend Esther Anderson claimed that the lyrics, "Sheriff John Brown always hated me / For what, I don't know / Every time I plant a seed / He said, 'Kill it before it grow'" are actually about Marley being very opposed to her use of birth control pills; Marley supposedly replaced the word "doctor" with sheriff.[4]

Sheriff is one of the weapons that requires a lot of skill to use and make it worth the 800 credit price imo. My request is to make the sheriff a one shot headshot at all ranges since it requires a lot of skill to use. You're literally aiming at a pixel sometimes and you get a 145 tag which really really sucks. I think I should be rewarded with a kill when I successfully manage to precisely click that head. Please don't hate on this post if you disagree but feel free to leave your opinions down below.

\"He knew everybody. Anytime you lose a law enforcement officer that's a major hit. Here we lost a sheriff,\" Cunningham said and also remarked that Williams' family was \"holding up good\" and that \"we love them just as much as he loved them.\"

The complaint states deputies David Lovejoy and Jonathan Young initially shot him more than a dozen times, then Talavera was shot twice more by Lovejoy while he was lying on the ground and already "grievously wounded."

The D.A.'s review found that Talavera "created a deadly force situation by pulling a metallic black object from his waistband, an item both deputies believed could have been a small firearm." Regarding the final two gunshots, the review states Talavera was told not to reach for the object, but he grabbed it and "tucked it into his body," leading Lovejoy to fear that Talavera "was arming himself again."

Bossenmeyer was just six months away from retirement after a 32 year career at the county when she was shot, 24 of which was spent at John Wayne. A lifelong Orange County resident, she grew up in Buena Park and retired in Anaheim.

The only information the department released to Bossenmeyer was a set of brief statements from officers at the scene, which all state that Breaton rushed to help Bossenmeyer after he shot her, applying a tourniquet to her arm and staying with her while they waited for the ambulance.

In an alternate interpretation, a 1975 1 minute 52 second interview was recorded onto his posthumous album, Talkin' Blues (track 20). There he tells the story of growing up in Trenchtown, Jamaica where men would try to fight him, and he used that to write a song. He did not fight the man, he sought out the reason why the man was angry, he shot the real problem of why the man was angry (the sheriff) , and not the man (the deputy).

Police say 35-year-old Deputy Caleb Conley was shot and killed during a traffic stop on I-75. Deputy Conley served in the US Army for eight years and has been with the Scott County Sheriff's Office for four years. He leaves behind a wife and small children.

According to a citation, Sheangshang allegedly shot Deputy Conley during a traffic stop on I-75 and then fled the scene to River Run Court in Georgetown. He tried to obtain a ride by allegedly forcing his way into a home, pointing a handgun at a man in the home, and forcing the man to provide keys to his vehicle, the citation says.

Sheangshang is accused of then leaving the home in the stolen car and proceeding to Lexington. A citation says Sheangshang then allegedly shot another person on Georgetown Road before stealing the victim's vehicle at 5:50 p.m. Monday.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice says the officer conducted field sobriety tests on the shooter, identified as 34-year-old Jeremiah Johnson, before returning to his vehicle. Authorities say Johnson was "evasive" during the interaction.

The song talks about violence against law enforcement. In fact, the first line is, of course, I shot the sheriff. But Marley stops short of advocating for an all-out war against police, saying that he did not shoot the deputy, meaning he was not all-encompassing in his aim.

"Palmdale loves the sheriff's deputies, and the deputies take very good care of Palmdale and love our community back," Mayor Laura Bettencourt said at the news conference. "The person that did this is a coward. and they will be caught."

During the incident, an off-duty deputy working security inside the credit union was shot twice, once in the abdomen and once in the upper chest.

Dispatch reports showed the first call to 911 was received at 3:42 p.m. with a caller reporting an officer had been shot. Fort Worth Chief of Police Neil Noakes said late Monday afternoon that officers arrived about a minute after the first call was received and that's when they learned the injured officer was a Tarrant County sheriff's deputy. The armed robber, the sheriff's office said, ran from the scene after the shooting.

The injured deputy was given immediate medical treatment and about a half hour after the shooting, an ambulance was seen racing toward John Peter Smith Hospital, escorted by Fort Worth police officers and Tarrant County sheriff's deputies.

They contacted the homeowner, who told them no one should be home, and that there was a handgun, a shotgun and an AK-47 inside, along with a large amount of ammunition.

Talavera appeared to be moving toward the ground when both deputies opened fire, the footage showed. After dropping to the ground wounded, the footage showed Talavera pushing his upper body slightly off the ground and grabbing the knife. Lovejoy then fired two more shots.
