Beginner singer still but have been learning singing for the last year. I'm a woman, but even as a girl, I had a deep voice that people would point out, so I've always had a complex about my voice in general. Never thought someone with my kind of voice could even sing (I assumed my range was going to suck), but as I've picked it up, I've really enjoyed this hobby. And I thought maybe this is a good exercise to figure out how to love my own voice.

I've been learning a lot of musical theater thanks to my teacher and I guess I feel a little sad because I feel like there's a certain type of voice that's really valued in those kind of songs (soprano, Disney princess-like voice). I honestly think what's holding me back lately in my lessons is psychological, as I think I've genuinely improved a lot in the past year, but in front of other people, I'm always thinking about how unfeminine my voice must sound and how I feel like my voice isn't pretty enough when I'm singing a soprano's part or a Disney song. (My teacher has a beautiful soprano voice, I'm so jealous.)

I'm wondering whether people feel like they are ever resigned or forced into certain types of songs to sing and perform because of their natural timbre? Or if you've had this sort of complex with your voice, how did you overcome it?

I'm always telling myself I wouldn't cringe at my voice if only it sounded more feminine, even though I know everyone struggles with hearing their own voice. I don't even know that I necessarily want to perform musical theater someday, but it still feels bad. I'm always worried that one day I'll realize the skills I've worked hard to build aren't enough because the sound of my voice is just not as nice. I know it's about what you do with your voice, but I guess it's also hard because I don't really know of role models to follow.

I am also a mandopop/gufeng/zhonguofeng EDM lover. For those who are looking for more musical pauses (and for the OST) and those unfamiliar with the music genres, I am adding this short playlist in Discussions here with relevant direct links to the songs, on Youtube or other.

The "Bones To Sand" song suggested and sung by Qiang Qingci in ep3, 5:22, before the Black pepper stir fried ribs recipe 12:88. Just mentioning that in this ep3, Gu Sheng and her friends inaugurate their Zhaozhaomumu studio 18:50, playing an unnamed tune with pipa, dizi, drum, electric guitars -no title found for that tune yet. The "Bones to Sand" song is also end theme song for episodes, and it is the song chosen for Mo Qingcheng to sing in a changed voice at the karaoke in ep.19, before he swiftly exits with Gu Sheng to end the date in style.

But I do not think Zhou Ye is Le Xiao Tao. There are very few videos showing Zhou Ye singing. The one with Hou Minghao, Xiao Shunyao, Zhou Ye and Jiang Yiqiao with CNY songs for 2022 shows her singing not impressively, she does not seem to be able to reach high notes like those required in the song, nor have a voice that can handle gufeng. She can sing in a limited scale, best with a chorus to overshadow her possible off key moments [edit: a BTS shows her singing so off key that JC-T looks rattled].

There are some "singers" like that, who are not keen to sing solo on stage -- thinking about my "best romantic actor" Chen Zheyuan, who was so sweet and perfect in Hidden Love but shied away from the only snippet of karaoke where he was supposed to sing Zhao Lusi's "It seems to fall into the Sea of Love" song - CZY is sweet and knows his limitations. Still, I love CZY, and Duan Jiaxu was a better down-to-earth and believable (if too perfect) character in Hidden Love than Qiang Qingci the superman who does not sleep and stays hidden from public despite paparazzi threats and gossiping fans, for the somewhat similar romance Love Me Love My Voice, imho - The finger poking on cheek by Duan Jiaxu at the university lecture was so much sweeter than just sitting behind FL like Qiang did, for instance. Nevertheless, I am extremely pleased to find that contrary to his junior (CZY), Tan JianCi is such a good singer in addition to being also very good at acting!

This is an informative and interesting thread. Thanks for creating and sharing this. I love the Gu Feng emphasis on music, the voice acting profession and how this drama leverage on the beautiful sites.

Have you ever wished to sing a song but found it too high or low for your voice? Don't worry; you're not alone! Today, we're diving into the world of singing and gender-affirming voice. Singing can be one of the most powerful and gender-affirming activities, allowing us to explore our identities and express ourselves authentically. If you watch the video above, you can see pictures of me doing teenage bedroom gender-bending while getting ready to sing Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man" lol

Singing is a liberating and affirming way to explore and express your gender identity. Who among us hasn't closed their eyes and belted out a song into their hairbrush, imagining that you ARE the lead singer? Singing has the capacity to be profoundly gender-affirming!

It's frustrating when you fall in love with a song, but it feels uncomfortable to sing along. That's where transposing music comes to the rescue! Transposition is the process of changing the key of a song to make it higher or lower, aligning it with your vocal range and making it more comfortable to sing. This is something super common to jazz singing (which is the background that I have) but not so common in other genres.

In the video above, I use the popular song "Creep" by Radiohead as an example to demonstrate how to transpose music using Ultimate Guitar Tabs, a widely-used platform for guitar chords and tabs. This song is originally in the key of G, which, as you'll see in the video, does not suit my voice at all.

By transposing a song, you open up a world of possibilities for your singing journey. Whether you're a trans woman looking to feminize your voice, and want to sing feminine songs more comfortably, or anyone seeking to match the song with your vocal range, finding the perfect key is a gratifying experience.

Using transposition to find your key, much like trans voice training, is not a linear process. Embrace the joy of experimentation as you try different keys and explore the nuances of your voice. You may need to transpose a song several times to find the ideal fit, but remember: each attempt is a step toward discovering the right key for you.

If you haven't already, make a list of songs that make you feel gender-euphoria when you sing them. Let's celebrate the power of music in our journey of self-discovery and vocal empowerment. Your experiences and song choices might inspire others on their voice training and gender-affirming paths.

Singing is a beautiful form of self-expression, and through voice training and transposing music, you can make any song suit your unique voice. Remember, the process might require patience and practice, but the rewards are worth it!

I would give it all away just to hear your words

Such satisfying sounds swing me back and forth in a dizzy dance

I lose my footing every time you speak

It is not just your words but the beauty within that captivates me so

I save all your messages to hear plaid over and over again

They are melodious songs that bring forth the light of a new day

They are enchanting as you are in life

No words spoken could explain the grace and charm of your voice

Each time you speak I have died a thousand times

With each word I am sent heaven bound

Your voice takes me places only imagined in dreams

Paradise once lost is found in your voice

Let it be known that there is no other like you

I am compelled to a higher ground

Your expressions are like the wind in my sails that sets me free

I cannot place any other above you

Your voice is all I ever need to hear in life

Your ability to speak brings shivers up and down my spine

It has the greatest influence over my body

If I should ever fall and stricken deaf, your voice would remain to reverberate in my heart

It would be the last sounds I would want to hear

Your name would be the last sound spoken from my lips
