Our Alternative Love Blueprint celebrates over 300 musicians, artists, managers and producers who (in our opinion) have been pivotal to the evolution of the alternative and independent music scene, from Bill Hayley & His Comets whose 1950s Rock Around the Clock became the first ever anthem for a rebellious youth, through to experimental rock bands Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead.

Freddie Mercury wrote the song while languishing in his bath at the Munich Hilton. He leapt from the tub and ran to his guitar and piano to lay down the melody. His label was reluctant to release the song in the U.S. but radio stations played the imported U.K. single anyway, forcing an American release.

One day I was driving on the outskirts of Cheyenne and heard a song of mine on Wyoming Public Radio. I looked around and all I could see were farms for miles. I hoped that somewhere somebody was listening to that song and maybe it was sinking in. As it turns out, my songs were making their way around planet and today I have relationships with worldwide friends, all because of the radio.

When I was little my dad used to joke that he married my mom for her record collection. My parents both grew up in the city in Philadelphia. They came from hard-working families and they did not have a lot of material possessions, and what they had did not come easily. My mom talked a lot about how she would use a portion of her babysitting money to save for record albums. Growing up we always played music and danced a lot at home. Even when things were tight we had a stereo and there was always something good on. I remember on the weekends when we would clean the house my dad always played different records, from Broadway shows to Michael Jackson to Abba, so growing up like that, how could I not love music? Motown, all Motown, was played often in the Levin household. The music just becomes a part of who you are when you hear it all the time. I think that is why I am open to working on so many different formats in imaging today, because my parents exposed us with such enthusiasm to so much when we were young.

I love, love, love doing Classic Hits! Since I grew up listening to 80s music, it really resonates with me! I also love having fun with the sarcasm and humor of the Adults Hits channels. In my family my husband is the one with the dry, whitty humor, but on air I can assume that role and it is fun for me to engage with the scripts and move away from the rah rah party girl. Just this week I also got to do a set of liners for an Oldies station for the first time! Since that is the music my folks always played growing up, it was not just happy work, but particularly meaningful to me too.

I think that life is short and you have to do what you love. I have always loved music, and I have a true passion for voiceover. Working in Radio Imaging feels so natural because so much of who I am inside can just flow when I am in front of the mic. I am so thankful for each and every station that I work with!

The Boat That Rocked is an ensemble comedy, where the romance is between the young people of the 60s, and pop music. It's about a band of DJs that captivate Britain, playing the music that defines a generation and standing up to a government that wanted control of popular culture via the British Broadcasting Corporation. Loosely based on the events in Britain in the 60's when the Labour government of Harold Wilson, wanted to bring the pirate radio stations under control, enough to see the passage of the Marine Broadcasting Offences Act on 15 August 1967. Also known as "Pirate Radio".

Despite its flaws (some of them almost hurtful, like blatant sexism, misogyny and homophobia - but it is based in the 60's so I can almost forgive it as it's "the times") I adore this movie. It's a character based, rock and roll fueled, riot.

Despite an energetic soundtrack and an even more energetic cast, Richard Curtis' "The Boat That Rocked," also known as "Pirate Radio," can not muster the necessary energy to make the film stand up or stand out. The comedy, about a floating radio station in the 1960s, entertains but is far too dry to make a memorable cinematic splash.

After pursuing other interests for several years, Clement has now come back into the fold and will be broadcasting live on Crytal Love Radio every Friday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm playing the very best in Rare Groove Soul, Ole School Funk, R&B, Neo Soul, Reggae, Lovers Rock, Soulful House and lots more. Community members host shows, playing everything from jazz to progressive rock, complemented by a base of Americana music curated and scheduled in Monona.

VOLUNTEER DRIVEN : Why do we volunteer? Because we love radio and our community! The City of Monona's Director of Community Media is the only paid member of the WVMO team.

HISTORY OF WVMO: The City of Monona worked to apply for and create a low-power FM radio station beginning in 2007. With the help of top notch equipment maintained by top notch volunteers, we went on air for the first time in August of 2015

HOW WE GOT OUR NAME: A call letter contest to name our new low-power FM radio station was held, and the winning entry -- WVMO -- "The Voice of Monona" -- was submitted by Monona resident Mark Buffat. Buffat's entry was chosen over more than 100 entries. Congratulations, Mark, and a big thanks to all those who submitted contest entries! ff782bc1db
