I recently changed phone and wanted to restore my WhatsApp chats and media from my previous phone through the Google Drive backup. However, while the restore was mostly completed, it somehow got stuck at downloading the final 4.2MB.

In any case, I fixed my problem by disconnecting WhatsApp from Google Drive when WhatsApp was stuck in the restore media step. (Instructions to disconnect WhatsApp from Google Drive can be found in the link). After doing so, I restarted my phone and WhatsApp gave an error saying it could no longer restore media since it did not have access to Google Drive. It gave me the option to skip restoring the remaining 4.2MB of media and I took it, since it's probably some pictures or documents I could do without.

Following which, WhatsApp will no longer be stuck on restoring media, and I can again perform remote backups to Google Drive. Just leaving this here in case anyone encounters the same issue in the future.

Today, Whatsapp allows us have a PROFILE, have a TIMELINE (Whatsapp Stories), share STATUS MESSAGE; exchange FREE TEXT, IMAGE, AUDIO and VIDEO same as you can do on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

If Instagram could be seen as a social medium platform and it does not completely allow instant messaging on the web browsers just like Whatsapp then Whatsapp and BBM which are Mobile based and allows connections and sharing should be seen as a social media platform just like Instagram is.

Not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask, but thought I'd check. I want to export a WhatsApp chat to PC from an Android device (One Plus 6T), ideally in an easily readable format with the media inline (including video, pictures, and voice notes). The chat in question was with a very close friend who passed away recently, and I am now utterly paranoid of losing the memories in the messages and want them backed up in some non-proprietary format offline. With the advent of WhatsApp and other cross-platform multimedia instant messaging services, it became so easy to send photos, videos, and audio to someone else that we've forgotten how annoying it was to do so just slightly over a decade ago.

As much as I'd like to praise WhatsApp for their pivotal role in changing the way we connect with others, WhatsApp has also been the bane of all smartphones, especially so in the last few years as people generated more and more media per day.

Particularly detestable are "Good Morning" images that are sent by the same individuals in multiple group chats, resulting in media duplication and serves no purpose other than to take up precious storage space on my phone and thereby shortening its effective lifespan.

Despite the best of my efforts at trying to be prudent with my WhatsApp media downloads, WhatsApp still takes up 18GB of storage. Hi. I have an iPhone XR and am running ios15. Since I changed my broadband to Virgin, my WhatsApp will not connect to WiFi. It works fine on 4G, but not on home WiFi. Social media apps also do not load photos or videos on apps like Facebook and Instagram. I have tried endless amounts of settings adjustments on the iPhone and the router and cannot make this work. Please can you help to fix this issue as I should be able to use my WiFi to use WhatsApp at home. Thanks in advance.
