"I'm a Little Teapot" is an American novelty song describing the heating and pouring of a teapot or a whistling tea kettle. The song was originally written by George Harold Sanders and Clarence Z. Kelley and published in 1939.[1] By 1941, a Newsweek article referred to the song as "the next inane novelty song to sweep the country".[2]

The lyrics begin "I'm a little teapot, short and stout..." and go on to further describe the appearance and actions of the singer-as-teapot.[5] The song may be accompanied with actions: extending one arm in a curve like the spout, placing the other arm like the handle, and bending sideways to pour.

And finally, trace around the edges of the teapot using a black permanent marker. This adds a lot of definition to the teapot shape, and will hide minor cutting accidents. (Because we have a slightly uncontrollable toddler in the house, I opted to do this step for everyone myself.)

Optional: I noticed that the kids kept pushing the top of the teapot, which was flattening the paper plate. A little bit of sticky tape helped to hold the two sides of the paper plate about an inch apart. (I show this in the tipping teapot video above).

Can you solve a debate between dp and me? Do has been teaching dd I'm a little teapot, but his version of the words is not the version I knew when I was little. The thing is, I can't remember what the version I knew is. It's the third line we disagree on. Dp's version is

I'm a little teapot, short and stout

Here's my handle, here's my spout

When I see the tea cups hear me shout

Tip me up and pour me out.

I tried Wikipedia, which says the third line should be 'when I get the steam up hear me shout', but that doesn't sound right to me either.

What words do you use?

But, but, but - when the kettle's boiling makes NO SENSE! If the water's still in the kettle, the teapot will only have dry bags or leaves in it, so there will be nothing to pour out. Basic physics, innit?

I wanted to play with proportion for the spout, so next I made a little cone shape and stuck a pencil tool through the middle. I carefully rolled the shape out, with the pencil tool still through the inside, and used it to thin the walls of the cone. When I was satisfied with my spout, I attached it as well.

My second offering goes back to the teapot. Before the pandemic shutdown, I had a conversation with a woman who was talking to me about the state of depletion. She had me imagine that I was holding a teacup and saucer (old school). She said that whatever was in the teacup was for me and me alone and whatever spilled over into the saucer was what I had to share with others. She called that abundance. If the saucer was empty and I had to pour into others from my cup, that was depletion.

On the line 'I'm a LITTLE teapot' (Crouch down), on the line 'Hear me shout' (stamp feet or march on the spot), on the line 'Tip me over and pour me out' (turn around in a circle with pouring motion)!

I enjoyed the imagery and how you almost lead me to believe the cup would be saved. Only for you to spill the tea (heh, get it) and reveal that that wasn't the case.

I found that when you described the hat, it took me out of the flow of the poem a bit. Maybe it was the sudden use of parentheses, or the unnecessary detail of it when everything else is vaguely described.

Also, I'm not sure if it was intentional but you added an extra "I" in the last line. If that was removed, the delivery fit would've been perfect. But again I'm not sure if you meant to do that.

Overall, I really liked reading this. The feelings and messages were clearly expressed. It definitely drew out some feels for me. Though, coming from someone who vents their feelings out on poems, I hope you aren't feeling as lonely as the little cup ;-;

I would not say that I have an especially hot temper, but I have been known to shout when I get particularly angry. I try to resist it and every time I give in, I feel the dark teapot-ness inside me growing. I must hold it back.

Because I don't have enough to do, I have started yet another new project: a sketchbook of drawings made entirely with cheap art materials from the dollar store. I don't currently have the spoons to scan any full pages, so for now, please enjoy this little teapot man!

This piano teapot is my favourite, no surprises there really, you all know by now that music is a passion of mine. But I love the shape of it, the elegance, a talking point without being too silly or novelty. I think it is a classy teapot that has a hint of nostalgia. Anyone fancy a sing-song around a cuppa?!

A good size teapot, fit for a literature-loving family, especially if they are Jane Austen fans! This is another option for my quirky author friend. It does look fabulous, and would be such a classy teapot to use with pride if you held a book club at your house! Gorgeous design. This seller has a few teapots that are similar to this one but as one-cup sizes or different authors as the theme. Worth having a look to see which other books they have on their teapots!

This breakfast table teapot is up there as one of my favourites too. I love the funky colours, the cute little details. It is so sweet and such a perfect little set-up for a quirky teapot. Adorable, I love it.

The HTTP 418 I'm a teapot client error response code indicates that the server refuses to brew coffee because it is, permanently, a teapot. A combined coffee/tea pot that is temporarily out of coffee should instead return 503. This error is a reference to Hyper Text Coffee Pot Control Protocol defined in April Fools' jokes in 1998 and 2014.

The humble teapot was the first 3D reference object used in computer graphics and digital animation in the 1970s. Inspired by pouring a cup of tea, the Utah teapot was chosen to test algorithms for coding complex objects into a computer. The Utah teapot is sometimes jokingly referred to as the sixth Platonic solid, the teapotahedron, and it became an inside-joke to hide it in computer generated films such as Toy Story. The inspirational teapot can still be purchased today.

Decorative glass teapots were made in Murano by the Fratelli Toso company which was founded in 1854. The brothers specialized in millefiori designs created from colorful canes of glass that have been fused together to make tiny beads known as murrine. Occasionally, some of their functional teapots and teacups come on the market but the fragile glass was not best suited to serving hot tea. Even if not practical, Venetian glass is always decorative and the Murano hot shops made teapot-shaped vases and paperweights for the collectors market. No doubt many tea-loving tourists in Venice bought them as souvenirs.

My ex-husband had put all of my belongings in garbage bags and had thrown them into a canvas Cover-It, which was heavily damaged during a snow storm in late 2013. I had to root through the trash bags, snow, and ice. I felt for a moment like an archeologist excavating and cataloging ancient artifacts at a dig site. Most of my belongings had to be thrown away, they were beyond recovery but one garbage bag was still intact. It had been buried under the others and was protected from the elements. I managed to get the bag open after some tugging and pulling. When the bag was completely open I began to sob. Inside the bag I found my favorite baby picture laying undamaged and underneath it was my little rubber teapot!

Even now over a year later whenever I am a bit sad, I take my little rubber teapot in my hands and give it a squeak. The sound never fails to make me laugh, and it brings back all my cherished memories and the love I shared with my family. That love allows me to look towards a future that holds much promise. My teapot and I are both survivors. Who knows what will pour out next? 9af72c28ce
