I supervise Ph.D. and integrated M.S.-Ph.D. students through the University of Science and Technology (UST), whose graduate campus is hosted by the Center for Underground Physics (CUP) at IBS in Daejeon. Students apply to the Basic Science major and choose Physics as their specialization at a later stage. Admitted students join CUP as full members of the research group and work on the same experiments and hardware as our postdocs and staff scientists, both in the laboratory in Daejeon and at the Yemilab underground laboratory.

Research topics open to students

• COSINE-100U and COSINE-200: dark matter search with low-background NaI(Tl) crystals at Yemilab

• Purification of NaI powder and growth of ultra-low-background crystals

• NEON: detection of reactor neutrinos via coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering

• R&D on new scintillators, cryogenic detectors, and photosensor readout for dark matter detection

• AMoRE: neutrinoless double beta decay search with cryogenic molybdate bolometers

Financial support

All students in my group receive a monthly stipend: 2,100,000 KRW for M.S. students and 2,640,000 KRW for Ph.D. students. Support for conference travel and for on-site work at the underground laboratory is provided separately through research grants.

UST 대학원 과정 (한국어 안내)

본 연구그룹은 과학기술연합대학원대학교(UST)를 통해 박사과정 및 석박사통합과정 학생을 선발합니다. 학생은 UST 대학원생 신분으로 대전 기초과학연구원(IBS) 지하실험 연구단(CUP)에서 수업을 듣고 연구를 수행합니다. 지원 시 전공은 기초과학전공을 선택하며, 세부전공인 물리학은 이후 단계에서 선택합니다. 입학한 학생은 CUP 연구그룹의 정식 구성원으로서 박사후연구원 및 연구위원과 동일한 실험과 장치를 다루며, 대전 실험실과 예미랩 지하실험실에서 연구를 수행합니다.

인건비 지원

본 연구그룹의 모든 학생에게 매월 인건비를 지급합니다. 석사과정은 210만 원, 박사과정은 264만 원입니다. 학회 참가 및 지하실험실 현장 연구에 필요한 출장비는 연구과제를 통해 별도로 지원합니다.
