about hyds
Working plan
The HYDS group aims to become the reference group in hydrodynamics in the country. It is an interfaculty group that develops its work around the dynamics of groundwater and its interrelation with other hydrosystems.
The group has a robust structure composed of high-level researchers, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral, masters and undergraduate students. The group is supported by an undergraduate program and the young professional network (YPN-Bogotá) attached to the IAHR.
The group focuses its work on a large research project, where all its lines of research are in constant and dynamic interaction. The group intends to expand its work coverage and maintain a dynamic that in the medium term allows it to integrate Research Centers, generating alliances with public and private actors
state of art
The research carried out by the HYDS Group is at the national forefront, and has the support and endorsement of cutting-edge applied research from its projects. The group has made great contributions to the National Engineering, such as the analysis of the impact of the construction of tunnels is mountainous systems, the physical modeling of hydrogeological processes, methodological designs for conducting hydrogeological studies in areas of mining energy interest, as well as the field experimentation to verify the interaction of groundwater with surface water. Currently, it deals with the integration of various hydrodynamic modeling techniques that include the weighting of chemical and heat variables in the evolution of water in a complex hydrosystem.
objectives
The aim of the HYDS Group is to carry out the basic and applied study of hydrodynamics in both surface and underground natural systems.
In particular, the HYDS Group must:
Perform analysis and development of basic hydrogeology applied to complex processes.
Study the hydrodynamics of the interaction between groundwater and surface water in various scenarios.
Conduct studies for the development of public policy in matters of water resources management
Build models for the solution and analysis of the impact of infrastructure, mining and energy developments on the natural behavior of the systems.
CHALLENGES
The group works in key with the GIREH Group, which was its seed, but also with other local universities such as the PUJ and the UPTC, as well as the other two main headquarters of the University. It works in conjunction with groups of the Faculty such as Electromagnetic Compatibility and Air Quality, as well as Residual and Partially Saturated Soils and Resilience and Sanitation. Interfaculty work is also carried out with groups from the Department of Geosciences. Regarding the international level, there is currently a joint work with the University of Rennes 1 in France, the Polytechnic University of Milan in Italy and the Northwestern University in the USA.
outlook
The HYDS Group, aspires in 5 years to be categorized in Colciencias Category A1, and to be a reference in Colombia in its lines of research, expanding the collaborative work with groups from other disciplines, from other regions and other countries.
The HYDS Group will be an applied scientific advisory body for the Colombian State, and its developments will guide public policy in the management of water and mining-energy resources.
