Speaker: Eugene Holubnyak (U Wyoming)

Presentation title: Hydrogen, Hubs, and Energy Infrastructure

Synopsys:

Hydrogen is poised to contribute significantly to meeting net-zero emission targets and global decarbonization efforts. It can be used as an energy carrier for electricity generation, fuel for difficult-to-decarbonize industries sectors, heavy transportation, and shipping. Hydrogen is a great energy storage vehicle that will scale up on-demand clean energy generation capacity to accommodate peak demand. The creation of the hydrogen ecosystem demands careful consideration of policies that support technological development and regulate the development of supporting infrastructure, which will require the coordination of social, economic, technical, scientific, and commercial forces. We will discuss the current state of science and technology and explore potential areas of hydrogen systems development in Wyoming and nationwide. We will discuss some opportunities and challenges in scaling up the hydrogen ecosystem.

Speaker: Meysam Qadrdan (Cardiff University)

Presentation title: The role of hydrogen in achieving net-zero: A whole system perspective

Synopsys:

The talk will provide an overview of the current challenges that the UK faces to achieve its net-zero goal by 2050. The potential roles of hydrogen in decarbonising the whole energy system will be discussed, and the need for modelling tools to study systems integration of hydrogen will be highlighted.
