Welcome to the HydroGen Project

We are an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funded project, led by researchers in University College Dublin with partners in the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) and Bowburn Consultancy in the UK. The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) is also a co-funder of the project.

The overall aim of our research is to integrate DNA-based assessment tools into water quality and biodiversity monitoring. From microbes to diatoms and fish to invertebrates were looking to change the norm of how freshwaters are assessed.

Working from the Area 52 lab, based in the School of Biology and Environmental Science Earth Institute in University College Dublin, we have access to state-of-the-arts facilities and equipment, allowing us to push the boat out in this new and exciting field.
