Read or and look at pictures in books together. You don't have to read all the words in a story. Just talking about the pictures is enough!
Talk about what is happening in the pictures. Model descriptive langauge and vocabulary.
Ask your child questions about pictures, characters, actions, and events ( Who, What, Where, Why, When, How). If you child does not know how to respond to certain type of question, MODEL the answer for them! Always pause and leave space for your child to respond and process.
Play I-Spy to work on descriptive language and basic concepts (size, color, location, etc). Emphasize the 5 senses when giving clues (sight, touch, smell, taste, sound), as well as fucntion and category of an object.
