Undoubtedly, location plays a major role in making any important life decision. I can relate to this personally, having been affiliated with multiple academic institutions and traveled extensively for academic purposes. While KFUPM may not yet be as globally renowned as some prestigious institutions, it possesses a charm and uniqueness that is truly its own.
I earned my BS from KFUPM many years ago. At the time, as a young student, I didn’t fully appreciate the beauty of the campus and its architecture—but now, I certainly do. KFUPM is a unique, picturesque desert campus perched atop a hill. The interconnected buildings and varying elevations give the campus a captivating, three-dimensional effect. The architecture is truly remarkable, and I often find myself pausing in the corridors or at building junctions just to admire it. The views from all over the campus are stunning. Whenever I need a break from research, I step out onto one of the many balconies across campus to take in the scenery and relax.
Here are a few photos of our campus that I’ve taken myself:
Our campus is in a prime location, situated in one of the world’s major energy hubs. We are right next to ARAMCO, the largest hydrocarbon company globally, and close to Ghawar, the largest conventional oil field in the world. At KFUPM, we are committed to driving technological advancements that build upon existing innovations to continue powering the world.
In addition to our strategic location, KFUPM is just a 10-minute drive from local public beaches, and we even have our own KFUPM beach. Saudi Arabia itself is a remarkable desert nation, known for its unique beauty. As the 13th largest country by area but only 48th by population, Saudi Arabia offers vast, breathtaking desert landscapes. Visitors quickly notice the pristine natural beauty that stretches across the country, which often goes unnoticed by many.
Here are a few outdoor photos I’ve taken across Saudi Arabia (and no, none of these are edited 😊—I get asked that a lot!):
