I was born in the city of Vinh, Nghe An, Vietnam. I finished the primary school and half-time of secondary school at Ben Thuy, Vinh, Nghe An until 1994. I moved to Saigon, Vietnam and continued secondary school and high school (Nguyen Thuong Hien) until 1999.
I received Bachelor of Mathematics and Msc in Computer Science from University of Science, HCM, in 2003 and 2007. From 2009 to 2017, I was a PhD student, a research assistant and then a research associate (staff) at School of Information Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Japan where I was doing research in the areas of image and video analysis of face, affective computing and multimodal HCI.
From 2004 to 2005, I was a lecturer at HCM city, University of Technology and Education, Faculty of Mathematics.
From 2005 to 2010, I was a lecturer at HCM city, University of Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics.
From 2010 to 2017, I joined the HCM University of Education, Faculty of Information Technology, VN, as a lecturer.
Since October 2017, I've been a head of Computer Science Department and continued my work on machine analysis of human non-verbal behaviour.
Since October 2020, I've been a dean of Information Technology Faculty and continued my work on complex emotion.
Since June 2023, I've been senior lecturer of Information Technology Faculty.
My research aimed at Sparse Principal component analysis, has been funded by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training for a period of 2 years (2010 to 2012).
My research aimed at automatic estimation of human facial emotion, called funded by the Japanese Government (Kakenhi20225452) for a period of three years (2013 to 2016).
My research aimed at multimodal estimation of human facial emotion via visible and infrared (IR) imaging, has been funded by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training for a period of 2 years (06-2019 to 06-2021).
In 2014, I was awarded Best paper, the 14th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, Porto 2014.
In 2020, our paper was awarded Best paper, the 4th International Conference on Advanced Engineering and ICT-Convergence 2020 (ICAEIC-2020) .
