At Hund vom Nachtwehr, we are committed to preserving the true working Great Dane — a breed once known for its courage, intelligence, and relentless drive. Our kennel focuses on producing Danes with the traditional high prey instincts essential for hunting boar, red deer, and other large game, while also excelling in modern protection and utility work.
Our dogs are carefully developed to be versatile athletes and loyal guardians. They train and compete across a wide spectrum of working disciplines, including French Ring, IPO, Nose Work, Obedience, Rally, Lure Coursing Tests, Agility, Barn Hunt, Dock Diving, and Scent Work. To ensure well-rounded temperaments, our Danes are also evaluated in Canine Good Citizenship and official Temperament Tests, proving themselves reliable companions both in the field and at home.
The kennel’s primary base is located in Alpbach, Austria, where protection sports and advanced training are a cornerstone of our program. We also maintain a hunting lodge and smaller kennel in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia, providing ideal terrain for developing our Danes in their original role as large game hunting dogs.
We specialize in the classic colors of the breed — Black and Harlequin, while also producing Merle and Fawn (black base). Our foundation rests on strong American lines, prized for versatility and drive, but we integrate European bloodlines when needed to reinforce the family spirit and height, creating Danes that are both formidable and noble in presence.
At Hund vom Nachtwehr, every breeding is intentional. Our Great Danes are not bred for fashion, but for purpose, performance, and preservation — honoring their history as hunters and protectors while excelling in today’s demanding working and sporting fields.
