At the beginning of the movie, Torres and Thatcher Corp. is immediately seen as a high tense fast-paced environment yet not painfully intense as Eva seems to care about her employees and is incredibly disheartened when Vincent and Anton leave. This is very different from what we see later on. As the movie progresses and Vincent and Anton have their own job going on, the work is very different. Vincent is incredibly pushy to all of his employees and sees them as a total means to an end. While them being his employees make it so they should work, the extent that he forces people to work to make deadlines is extreme. An example of this is how much he pushes Anton. Anton while being Vincent's cousin, doesn't seem to agree with everything he does and is afraid of the consequences. While Vincent might try to take some of the burdens off and talks with Anton to help, this is so Anton will continue his work on the algorithms and his mission to beat Eva [1].
Throughout the movie, Vincent's ambitions seem to drive him to the extreme and past the point of being healthy. Whereas many people would stop when struggles hit, he pushed through no matter the problem whether it be cancer or monetary issues. While this is certainly not healthy, it was Vincent and this was his dream he was chasing [1].
High-Frequency Trading Automation
In the movie, the number of high-frequency trading algorithms shows how automated stock trading has become. This is seen in the real world with the current stock market more than 50% being high-frequency trading algorithms. In the real world, high-frequency trading algorithms are even faster than they are portrayed in the movie but the need for speed holds true. As time passes the stock market has grown much more automated and will continue to grow more automated. However, while the stock market will continue to grow more automated it is predicted that it will never be fully automated. The reason for this is because if trades were to become more automated, the trend of trades would increase and you would need a person to catch this and make a unique trade. This is essentially no different that how trades are made today [2].
