HW: Write out the literature response that you gave orally. Should be 1/4-1/2 page of written response using the RACE framework and a prompt from the setting section or from the thematic section.

Week 5
Monday, 10/2:
Bellwork: write an original poem (8-10 lines) with perseverance as the main theme; Book circles (meeting 1); analysis of Jesse excerpt with annotations.
HW: Read "Oranges" by Gary Soto and answer the questions on the right.
Tuesday, 10/3: Continue reading Jesse excerpt; compare/contrast with "Oranges"; "housekeeping items": log completed written pieces, log books read, reflect on 1st book circle meeting, reflect on performance of literature responses thus far, make plan with book group for Friday's meeting.
HW: 1) be thinking about an item for "Show and Tell" that demonstrates the concept of perseverance in your life; 2) respond to the Gary Soto texts...which text better demonstrates the concept of perseverance (provide text evidence/response should follow the SRACE format)

Tuesday, 10/24: Bellwork: Read the "Connecting Social Studies to Literature" information and identify 5-7 examples of how Cushman has embedded appropriate details into The Midwife's Apprentice. Classwork: youtube clip #2 + close reading of "St. Crispian's Day" speech with group questions.
