Moderator Staff reserves the right to remove any Geneva players from the game if the situation is deemed necessary due to violations of the rules or safety concerns. Please be respectful when attending events at Geneva and especially at other schools. When visiting other schools for HvZ, it is expected you will obey their rule set and their Moderator staff.
These rules are intended for closed Geneva games, not invitationals. Those will feature their own rulesets to fit the game.
Don't be a jerk.
(DBAJ)
Don't be an idiot.
If you die in real life, you die in the game.
(Basically the same as Rule 0, but we put it in here twice so you get the message.)
Rules do not exist to find loopholes.
Before you tell the moderator:
Is someone hurt?
Am I minding my own business?
Did I try to solve the problem on my own?
Is it necessary?
Each player requires an orange bandanna to play
Stairs are no-play zones and doors will be marked with chalk to denote safe zones. Parked cars also have a safe zone around them while its occupants are getting in or out.
No-play Zones mean absolutely NO PLAY. Players are also not allowed to use no-play zones as safe zones. This is considered cheating.
Safe zones can be used by Humans, where they cannot be tagged by Zombies nor can they stun zombies from these zones, barring exceptions.
Humans can stun zombies from safe zones for the following buildings due to their design:
Rapp
Metheny Fieldhouse
On Wednesday, for Chapel, there is a no play time from 9:30-11:30. This means that there is no play during this time. PLEASE GO TO CHAPEL.
Eye Protection is recommended, but not required.
No indoor play unless stated otherwise for a Mission or special event.
Athletes are safe during official practices, but not on the way to or from practice.
For outdoor class sessions and scheduled events, you may proceed safely to the nearest building immediately following the end of the class/event.
The Tents on campus considered a Safe Zone while humans are eating a meal or attending an event (GRS, classes, etc.)
Humans are safe to and from classes in the Tent, but only to the nearest building / building of origin.
If we find out the tent is being abused as a safe zone when humans are not eating or actually attending an event, it will be made an in-play zone.
People who are not registered participants may not directly interact with the game.
Additionally, players may not tag or shoot non-participants
Just don’t mess with them
No shields or blocking devices
No cars, hover-boards, golf carts, longboards, etc.
Do not wear anything that obscures your identity/covers your face beyond a regular face mask (masks, paint, etc.)
Helmets with mounted go-pros or recording devices are allowed.
If you are required to carry a laptop with you, you may choose to be exempt from play during the time that you need to carry it. However, you must literally carry it and not wear or openly carry any HvZ paraphernalia. Also, do not carry around a laptop as an excuse to be safe. It’s not cool.
Cheaters who are repeat offenders will be removed from the game. Please don’t do it. We’ll find out.
If you catch anybody cheating or doing something questionable, please notify us. HvZ is most fun when everybody abides by the rules.
Effective Fall 2019 and forward, the boundaries have been reduced. The western boundary is now the sidewalk along the Alex’s parking lot next to Alumni, and the southern boundary ends between Reeves and the baseball field. Parking lots are out of play. This is due to an incident in the Spring 2019 game involving the police. The eastern boundary is the railroad track and the northern boundary is the back of Pearce.
Check the Boundaries Tab in the upper right on the website for a proper map of game boundaries.
HvZ in no way impedes your abilities to go to class and get our work done. It may not be used as an excuse for shirking responsibilities.
This is a dangerous game, play at your own risk. By signing up for the game, you agree to the rules, and place yourself under moderator authority and waive any liability.
Human Rules:
Human blasters must meet the following requirements:
Custom paint jobs are permitted as long as your blaster does NOT LOOK LIKE A LITERAL FIREARM.
No dark paint jobs
Have an average muzzle velocity under 120 FPS (Feet-per-second)
Must not be otherwise deemed dangerous by the Mod team
Pro-Grade Blasters (Dart Zone Pro, Nexus Pro, Aeon Pro) must be tuned down to HvZ standards and must go through a Chronograph screening.
Blasters may not be visible during:
Work
Class (Put it in your bag or under your desk)
Off Campus / Crossing at the Traffic Light.
Socks must also be the following:
Cannot be hard or have solid cores
They can be glued or duct-taped together, as long as they are still soft.
Sock-adjacent items (foam grenades, stress balls, etc.) are allowed, as long as they are soft
Blaster ammunition cannot be thrown
Your orange bandanna is required to be around your arm at all times when the game is in play.
Humans must stay on campus for the whole week. If for whatever reason you need to leave campus for longer than 24 hours, we apologize, but you should probably not play.
Commuters: try to stay on campus as much as possible so the game is as fair as possible.
Humans may stun a Zombie for two* minutes by shooting them with a dart blaster or by throwing a sock at them.
*Stun timer subject to adjustment
All non-electric blasters will be allowed at the start of the game UNLESS they are modified. (Then, see Moderators)
You will unlock electronic blasters.
Modified blasters must be screened by Mods before use (see blaster rules above)
Use caution in wearing tactical gear, and try to avoid wearing all black.
Request Mod approval if you have a question
Tactical gear follows the same rule as blasters - it must be taken off before leaving campus.
Rule #1: Don’t be an idiot.
Zombie Rules:
Your orange headband must be on at all times when you are outside and alive/active
When you are stunned, your bandanna goes around your neck or taken off.
Once your stun timer is up and you respawn, your bandanna must return to its active position
A tag is a firm touch to any part of a Human (including anything they are wearing or holding).
Tagging a human's blaster counts as a tag, but try not to aim for it.
Body Armor - an item the humans might unlock - means that the torso of the human cannot be tagged. This includes backpacks.
Arms, legs, and blasters are fair game.
If there is a dispute of whether someone has been tagged or not by a zombie (Shot the zombie at the same time they were tagged, etc.) and it cannot be settled through civilized discussion, then it will be settled with a best 2 of 3 Rock-Paper-Scissors, witnesses, or by a Mod.
If the zombie wins, they get the tag.
If the human wins, they survive and are granted safe passage to the nearest building (free play) or regroup with the human group (during missions).
Do not abuse this to dispute a legitimate tag. Be honest.
Zombies – you have less to lose than humans do, so also bear that in mind and be considerate.
For the game to work we need players who are tagged to play as zombies. If you get tagged and leave the game, you’re a jerk. (And what does rule 0 say about jerks?)
When hit with a dart / sock, a Zombie is stunned for two minutes*. A stunned zombie may not interact with the game in any way and must remain away from active gameplay until respawn.
*Stun timer subject to adjustment
Zombies may not respawn right next to a human (and subsequently tag them.)
Zombies cannot shield other zombies from darts/projectiles or continue to run toward a human.
If shot while stunned, the Zombie’s stun timer is reset/restarted. (So don’t linger around Humans.)
Other things of Note:
