This site provides examples of instructional resources created in the Humanizing Online STEM Academy, a professional development program funded by the California Education Learning Lab and administered by the Foothill DeAnza Community College District.
At the start I was nowhere near what this course has taught me. Liquid Syllabus "wow". I started with an expectation of recognizing cues in synchronous lectures but have learned that asynchronous can offer a warm and welcoming environment that is inviting for student to explore, learn, and be creative.
The online content in this course is time consuming to build but the confetti at the end of a Flipgrid is worth the final creation. I feel that there is more to learn and may even take another Stem Academy course. I would like to explore more online humanizing tools. At this point my plans are to review the course materials and build an online hybrid course for Fall 2023.
There are many different experiences in life that have changed a part of me as a person. But nothing so profoundly changed my views of online learning and course development as Humanizing Stem Academy. My outlook and respect for asynchronous learning and it's environment has truly changed. In developing this course (my sandbox) has given me a good start (more work to do). I will continue creating videos and practice using online tools to help Welcome students to a transparent humanizing course that’s supportive.
The B83 Liquid syllabus will serve as a outline to course content. The syllabus will include weekly course expectations. This is a requisite document for teaching that will include topics covered, a weekly schedule, and a list of tests, assignments, and their associated weightings.

The Getting to Know You Survey Quiz will allow students to introduce themselves to the instructor preferred titles and correct name pronunciation, also what would be the best student contact and learning expectations.
The ice breaker welcomes student interactions with each other and getting to compare asynchronous learning versus traditional learning. The icebreaker activity is a snapshot assignment that will illustrate how students feel about online learning midway through the semester.
This is a review of medical surgical content; a short introduction video on hematology components. The video welcomes students to future lecture content. It welcomes students to the online environment and displays instructor student support.
The highlighted lecture demonstrates leaders versus managers. It describes a review from a complex lecture topic. The microlecture is snapshot of healthcare leadership in an acute care setting.
