Spraying pesticides only treats the symptoms, not the root cause. Eliminating breeding sources and improving the environment is the most eco-friendly and human-friendly approach.

The relationship between health and the living environment was already being discussed by scholars as early as the time of Ancient Greece and Rome. However, due to the underdeveloped state of science, this relationship was not a prominent field of study for a long period in human history. Illnesses were often attributed to witchcraft, disbelief in God, sins from a previous life, punishment from heaven, or disturbances caused by demons. It wasn't until the mid-19th century, with the development of bacteriology, that people began to understand the causes of illness and how diseases spread, which were found to be closely related to the living environment. The industrialization of the 20th century significantly damaged the environment, and with the progress in medical research, the connection between health and the living environment became even more apparent.
Therefore, the 1986 Ottawa Charter and the 1998 WHO definition of a supportive environment confirmed that four major factors—natural environment, built environment, social conditions, and economic-political conditions—are the main influences on human health. The natural environment refers to elements such as water quality, food, air quality, cleanliness, noise, and temperature. These substances, which can be ingested, inhaled, heard, seen, or come into contact with the skin, indeed have a significant impact on human health.
