The Huffman FFA Livestock Show and Auction has provided students the opprotunity to learn about agriculture entrepreneurship through a "supervised agriculture experince" or animal project. thank all past and present Huffman FFA Livestock Show supporters for their part in the making of this show. Agriculture is the backbone of America and our youth is our future. This show could not be what it has become in the last 50+ years without support from the community. On behalf of all Huffman FFA Alumni and current members, we sincerely thank you.
Earning to live
In the early 70s, the May family provided land to start a school project farm. This was one of several events that spurred the idea of having a chapter livestock show. In the spring of 1972, the first project show was held property, with no live auction. Later that fall, planning for the first livestock show was underway. At the time, Mr. Owen Campbell was leasing property at Indian Shores Stables and offered to host the first offical livestock show & auction there. The 1st annual Huffman FFA Livestock Show was held in March of 1973.There were many community members that were involved in the founding of the livestock show. Mr. Steve Draper was the advisor at the time the show was founded.
Held in a tent, the Livestock Show was moved in 1975 shortly before Mr. Willie J. Hargrave donated land to build a new high school and ag facility at the corner of Huffman Eastgate and Willie Lane, where the current Huffman Middle School sits.
March 1978, the Huffman FFA Livestock Show and Sale set new sales records for the year with a total sale of $23,252.50. The advisor was Mr. Gary Bishop, who the livestock show did well under. Later that year, the new agricultural facility built at Huffman High School off Willie Lane and Huffman Eastgate was dedicated to Mr. I.T. May Sr.
In 1979, the auction pulled in approximately $43,000 at sale.
Then in 1980, The 8th annual livestock show and sale broke records with a $60,000 sale, which was $17,000 increase in gross revenue from the previous year. The 80’s were looking to be very successful for the Huffman FFA chapter and the livestock show.

The 2000s were very prosperous for the Huffman FFA Livestock Show. In 2000, the show was reaching a benchmark goal of a $70,000 auction. Auction totals by 2013 were upwards of $210,000.
In 2020, Huffman FFA broke a record number of animal entries at 133 with sale receipts that reached $204,436.00 thanks to the support of local businesses.
At the 49th livestock show, many records were broken at the auction despite a worldwide pandemic. Grand Champion steer sold for $45,000.00, Grand Champion Ag Mech sold for $13,000.00, with a total record-breaking sale of $ $340,597.00

At the 50th Livestock Show, the upward trend of record breaking numbers would continue. The program saw a record number of entries. The grand champion steer sold for $75,000 and the grand champion swine sold for $18,000. The 2022 auction totaled $547,357 surpassing the half-millon dollar milestone.
Currently, our livestock show retains participation at around 300 student projects. Our auction contiunes to surpass the $400,000 mark each year. Huffman is looking forward to a bright future for the show with increased student participation and community support in agriculture education.
