History

1910s

• 1918: Founded as "Wujiancuo Branch of Tuku Public School". Local gentleman Huang Zong-yue donated the land and construction funds, marking the very beginning of Huwei Elementary School.

1920s

• 1921: Officially established as an independent school and named "Huwei Public School".

1940s

• 1942: Due to increasing student enrollment, Huwei South Public School (now Liren Elementary School) was established separately. The school was renamed "Huwei North Public School".

• 1946: Following the end of WWII, renamed "Tainan County Huwei Township First Public School".

• 1949: Renamed "Tainan County Huwei Township North Public School" in August.

1950s

• 1950: Following Taiwan's local administrative rezoning (establishment of Yunlin County), renamed "Yunlin County Huwei Township Huwei Public School".

• 1958: Zhongzheng Public School was separated and established.

1960s

• 1960: Pinghe Public School was separated and established.

• 1968: With the implementation of nine-year compulsory education, officially named "Huwei Elementary School, Huwei Township, Yunlin County". In September, a Special Education Class was established.

1980s

• 1985: Due to insufficient space at the old campus, the school officially relocated to the current site on Mingzheng Road.

• 1986: Approved to use the adjacent land to further expand campus activity space.

• 1989: Established a Special Education Class for hearing-impaired students, comprehensively improving the special education environment.

2010s

• 2018: Celebrated its 100th Anniversary! A grand two-day centennial celebration was held, attracting over 2,000 alumni to return to their alma mater.

2020s

• 2021: Promoted smart campus and environmental education. Collaborated with the Yunlin County Environmental Protection Bureau to set up an air quality monitoring station on campus.

• 2022: Principal Hung Meng-chen took office in August, further strengthening character education and global perspectives.

• 2023: Officially joined the Yunlin County "Bilingual School" pilot program, bringing foreign teachers into the campus to fulfill the vision of being a comprehensive Bilingual Elementary School.
