What level should I prepare for over the summer?
At HT, we have a middle school team, only available for those in 7th and 8th grade, and then a junior varsity team and lastly, a varsity team.
The middle school team is great for 7th and 8th graders who may consider themselves new to the sport and want to try it out or have only been playing for a shorter amount of time. Their schedule differs from the other HT volleyball teams, they participate in a private/charter school only league and have most but not all of their games on Saturday mornings.
The JV team is best for those who have been playing volleyball for a few years and/or are proficient in all fundamental skills of volleyball as well as the language of volleyball, possesses the work ethic and endurance needed to compete at multiple games a week, and can prioritize Holy Trinity volleyball from the start to the finish of the season.
The varsity team is made up of the most talented volleyball players at Holy Trinity. Varsity players are considered highly adept at the sport, have the personality type that the varsity coaches seek out, and above all else, live and breath volleyball.
We highly encourage all players who feel that they match these descriptions to show up for summer workouts/open gyms and to feel welcome at any and all tryouts that they'd like to participate in.
Who can tryout? Who can attend open gym or team workouts?
Any current or prospective HTEA student, 7th - 12th.
What is MNL?
MNL is Monday Night League. This is only open to returning JV and V players. It is held at Satellite High School.
Where will practices/open gyms/tryouts take place?
In the Holy Trinity gym, unless otherwise stated.
Some open gyms are not at Holy Trinity, why?
For the whole month of July, the HT gym floor is getting worked on. We will move all open gyms to the Cape Coast gym for that month. Team workouts will still take place at HT.
What time and days will practices be held?
Tentatively, practices for JV and varsity will be 5:00 - 7:00. Middle school practice will be 3:00 - 4:30. Each team will practice Monday - Thursday besides the varsity team.
How will practices be structured?
Practices will be structured based on team dynamics, first. Younger teams will focus on fundamental skills while older teams will focus on game strategy and competition.
Where will games take place?
Games will typically be hosted by us or our opponents, JV and V will travel further than the middle school team.
How long is the indoor season?
The indoor season runs from the first week in August to the second week in October. The middle school team ends earlier.
How many players will be chosen for each team?
This decision will be left up to the coach of each team but typically, we aim for 12 players on each team.
Leading the Tigers in her third season will be Kylie Kutzner. She has over 10 years of experience coaching volleyball; high school, club, and college.
Assisting her will be Luke Taffer, in his second season with HT and ninth season coaching indoor.
Gabrielle Mommers will be leading the JV team in her eighth season at Holy Trinity tacking on 5 years of club coaching experience.
Trevor Johns will be joining the HT staff as an all-around assistant coach for any team that requires his presence. He has prior experience coaching indoor club at Cape Coast, beach volleyball at Cape Coast, and beach volleyball at HT.
Megan Carron will be leading the middle school team in her first season at Holy Trinity. She brings with her 5 years of club coaching experience and a varied career in college playing at Florida Southern and UNC-Greensboro.
