As Pizza 4Ps turns 10 in May 2021, we will launch a special limited-edition pizza to mark this important milestone. We believe that the story and commitments surrounding this pizza will inspire the community to recognize the necessity of sustainable development in general, and sustainable agriculture development in particular.
"We believe that sustainable development is the foundation for the company to realize the goal of "Bringing a smile to the world for peace." However, with the current level of sustainability, we still have a long way to go to achieve our goal. " Yosuke Masuko ( Pizza 4Ps founder and CEO) and Sanae Takasugi (co-founder) said.
From the initial store and growing into the business it is today, Pizza 4Ps has never forgotten or ceased carrying out its mission of bringing happy smiles to the community. In addition to developing tasty meals and the greatest customer service experiences, we aspire to become an organization that takes less and gives more to the planet via sustainable development and environmental preservation efforts. Above all, to achieve positive planet goals, we must innovate and collaborate with partners to source food more responsibly and sustainably.
Pizza 4P’s Attitude of Authenticity: Thien Sinh Organic Farm
The 14-hectare Thien Sinh Farm is an organic farm in Lam Dong province that has been supplying Pizza 4P's organic vegetables for many years. Therefore, we wondered if it would be possible to create a pizza that reminds people about the future of sustainable food by using a lot of vegetables from this farm.
Using Thien Sinh farm products for this unique pizza expresses our appreciation to the organic food source partner that has worked with Pizza 4Ps for the past ten years. We also emphasize our future direction of food supply in this article.
The unique pizza brings the message of "The future of sustainable food"
Most agricultural operations have negative effects on the environment, so the existing food system is considered unsustainable. The excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers pollutes soil and water and destroys surrounding ecosystems. These methods have caused soil quality to deteriorate, thus increasing land clearing and deforestation. This not only diminishes forests, which store a large amount of CO2 but also damages the habitats of the animals and plants that exist there.
More significantly, it is the consumers who are enabling this unsustainable agriculture. Of course, this includes restaurants like us. Modern agriculture is removing "pesticide-free" and "organic" products to fulfill the demand for "cheap" food. It is instead mass-produced on a large scale, with pesticides and chemical fertilizers used to boost efficiency. However, how many of us are aware of the impact of agriculture on the natural environment? That is why we would like to make this special pizza in the hope that the message within will encourage customers to think about and utilize sustainable food sources in the future.
Apply circular agriculture in Vietnam
What makes Thien Sinh farm distinctive enough for Pizza 4Ps to select it as the supplier of ingredients for this anniversary pizza?
This farm was founded ten years ago by co-founders Mr. Thang from Vietnam and Mr. Hama from Japan. Mr. Thang revealed, "The main distinction between Thien Sinh farm and other farms is that our farm is self-sufficient. Most farms, I believe, must purchase agricultural materials from outside sources, but here we produce our tools and even build our greenhouse. As a result, we can build greenhouses that are both suitable for our growing methods and long-term use. All farm waste may be recycled and used as fertilizer. By minimizing outside influences, we can limit rising input prices while still enabling our employees to improve their skills."
Furthermore, Thien Sinh farm also uses whey water from the Pizza 4Ps factory in farming. This is a concentrated byproduct of the cheese-making process. Additionally, it is not permitted to be released directly into the wastewater system following environmental standards of VietNam. This is also why Pizza 4P's is grateful to Thien Sinh farm for accepting it, helping to reinforce the sustainable development goal that Pizza 4P's is pursuing.
Toward a Sustainable Food System
In mid-April 2021, we launched the pizza "10 YEAR CELEBRATION PIZZA", which is in cooperation with Thien Sinh farm. Because the quantity of bresaola from the "happy cows" of the farm is restricted, the pizza is similarly limited. It is only available at two locations: Hai Ba Trung store in HCMC and Trang Tien store in Hanoi.
This pizza concept has also garnered over 2,000 likes on Facebook. We believe we have reached a large number of people with our message. Customers who have tried the cake have also expressed their appreciation, saying that it is a wonderful concept that has inspired them to consider purchasing organic food in the future.
This, however, is merely the beginning. We cannot attain our goals without consumers' understanding and demand for organic food. Although we still have a long way to go, Pizza 4Ps hopes that this message will be spread and received more widely to help us get closer to our goal of a sustainable food system in Vietnam.
