Study after Bettina Forget, Resnik Crater.
This artwork presents a small lunar impact crater located on the far side of the Moon, named after the astronaut Judith Arlene Resnik (April 5, 1949 – January 28, 1986). She was the fourth woman in the world to travel into space. At her age of 36, she was tragically lost her life during humanity’s 25th space mission, the Space Transportation System Program.
The artist, Ms. Bettina Forget, is an art educator. Over the years, she has created numerous paintings of lunar craters. Many lunar craters are named after great scientists, engineers, and explorers, yet she often found herself unfamiliar with who many of these people were. At the same time, she became curious about how many craters are named after women.
She discovered that among nearly 1,600 named lunar craters, only 33 are named after female scientists. “It creates an atmosphere where you think women aren’t contributing.” Therefore, she launched a project "Women With Impact," depicting all the craters named after women.
“A crater is an absence of matter, a void.” This absence mirrors the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields.

萊卡 Laika
Laika was the first living being to orbit Earth aboard the Soviet Union’s Sputnik 2 in 1957.
While people often remember the first human to orbit Earth and the first person to land on the Moon, I hope we can also remind that humanity’s journey into space was built upon the contributions and sacrifices of many living beings.
