Human-Systems Engineering and Applied Statistics (HSEAS) Lab

The HSEAS Lab is directed by Dr. Katie Jurewicz and is housed in the School of Industrial Engineering and Management at Oklahoma State University.

Our lab focuses on using human factors, systems engineering, and data analytics to study human interactions in healthcare systems.

Our goals are to improve patient safety, healthcare worker safety, and the overall healthcare experience.

Research Areas

Human Factors in Healthcare | Systems Engineering | Natural User Interfaces | Applied Statistics

Human Factors in Healthcare

A main focus of our lab is applying human factors to healthcare systems in a way that ensures systems are designed to support human cognitive and physical limitations.

Systems Engineering

Our lab takes a systems approach to understanding and designing complex systems in that we consider the people, tools and technology, organization, internal and external environment.

Natural User Interfaces

The future of human-computer interaction is to expand interactions beyond traditional input devices such as keyboard and mouse and to allow humans to interact with computers in natural and intuitive ways.

Applied Statistics

Our research is grounded in collecting data in the natural work setting to ensure that systems and technologies are reflective of actual human-system dynamics, thus we use advanced statistical methods such as Bayesian Statistics to model human behavior in health systems.

The HSEAS Lab is hiring!

We are currently hiring undergraduate researchers and PhD students to work in the HSEAS lab. Interested students should email Dr. Jurewicz with their CV and a description of their research interests as they relate to the lab's research.
