Annually in America, 8 out of every 1000 infants born do not live past a year. Weighing an average of 7.68 pounds, when a newborn dies the mother steps into a space of grief. Although the mothers’ grief manifests in different dimensions, the weight of each mother’s pain is uniform. I am interested in this weight of loss. In my work, I attempt to explore the physical dimensions of this weight. The 8 objects represent the mothers of the 8 infants. Although the dimensions of the pieces are different, they are each composed of exactly 7.68 pixels.
