This is a paid summer opportunity for sophomores, juniors, and seniors with interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Internship duration: Eight (8) weeks during the summer. New Interns: $4,000 Returning Interns: $4,500
Annually, there are over 300 internship positions across more than 30 laboratories around the country.

General information about student including student's guardian email address and phone number, country and city of birth. Be prepared to shared your pronouns, ethnicity, and race.
Your high school's name, city, and state. Student's grade level and GPA. Be prepared to upload your high school transcript. This section includes a question related to your experience related to programming and computer applications such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion, Rhino, MathLAb, Python, Arduino, etc. The application will ask you about your interest from a list (select all that apply) including Aeronautics, Calculus, Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanics, Medicine/Health, Physics, Programming, Robotics, Statistics, etc.
Be prepared to share information about scholarships, academic honors, scientific or engineering student leadership roles, honorary societies, and any recognition relevant. Information requested includes "Award/Honor" & "Awarding Organization", dates and details are not required but be ready to identify any awards or honors granted by the U.S. Government. If you do not have any awards to report, you will be asked to check a box.
The application will ask for any relevant past employment and/or volunteer information. Fields included are employer name, supervisor's name, title, and position, your position title, start and end date. It will also ask you to briefly describe your major duties. There will be a box to check in the case that you do not have relevant employment/volunteer information to report.
This section of the application will ask you to identify the Laboratory of your choice. This is the location where you would like to intern. It will also ask you about any other participation in STEM or DoD program such as FIRST robotics, RoboBoat, RoboSub, Seaperch, Mathcounts, SeaSense, International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), USA Science and Engineering Festival, and others.
You can identify the Laboratories location by using the interactive map. For example, California has 8 different locations; (MCTSSA) Camp Pendleton, (NAVFAC) Port Hueneme, (NAWCWD) Point Mugu, (NIWC Pacific) San Diego, (NPS) Monterrey, (NRL) Monterrey, (NSWC) Corona, and (NSWC) Port Hueneme. Similarly, Florida has 4 locations; (DEOMI) Patrick SFB, (FRCSE) Jacksonville, (NAWCTSD) Orlando, and (NSWC) Panama City.
This section of the application will ask you to provide information in 5 different subsections:
1) Career goals; describe how this opportunity aligns (will help you) with your career plans. You will have a field to include up to 5,000 words.
2) Academic interest; describe any special interest you have that would make you a valuable participant. This field has a limit of 3,000 words.
3) Research experience; describe any research experience you may have in relation to the program (laboratory) that you are applying. Including any STEM extracurricular or afterschool programs, camps, or competitions in which you have participated. This field has a limit of 5,000 words.
4) Technical Skills; describe any technical skills you may have related to the science and engineering disciplines. This field has a limit of 5,000 words.
5) Optional essay; share any information not captured in any other sections which you feel will be helpful to your application. This field has a limit of 2,000 words.
It is highly recommended to prepare these writings prior to starting the application process.
In this section you will be asked to enter the contact information of at least two references. According to the application, references should be scientists, engineers, faculty members (teachers), or people that have current or recent knowledge of your academic accomplishments or your professional experiences. References will be contacted electronically to complete a brief form and to attach a letter of recommendation on your behalf.
