CALL FOR PAPERS
RO-MAN 2018
The Workshop on Human-Robot Interaction through Virtual Reality
Submission deadline: July 23rd, 2018
https://sites.google.com/view/hrivr/
OBJECTIVES
==========
We can recently use various kinds of devices for virtual/augmented/mixed reality such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Play Station VR, Microsoft HoloLens and so on. These devices are currently applied to game systems, entertainment products and so on; however, the potential of the devices also have a great influence on research on human-robot interaction. With the help of recent motion measurement technologies, we can log in to an avatar in virtual reality. Thus the interaction between virtual robot agents and real humans is easily available on such VR systems. Conventional robotics research using virtual space tends to focus on the dynamics simulation of the physical behavior of robot systems; however, analysis of cognitive and social human-robot interaction in VR space would also be attractive applications as new trends. For example, the SIGVerse system released by the organizer has already applied to robot competitions to evaluate and promote a new type of tasks which require cognitive and social human-robot interaction ability.
In this workshop, we’d like to discuss how to build such Virtual/Augmented/Mixed reality system to promote human-robot interaction research, and exchange cutting-edge research topics from an interdisciplinary point of views. ‘Human-Robot Interaction’ in this workshop does not focus only on conventional robot systems but
includes a variety of applications such as teleoperation of semi-autonomous robots, tele-existence systems, rehabilitation systems, haptic human interfaces for VR application and so on.
INVITED SPEAKERS
================
- Kouta Minamizawa (Keio Univ., Japan)
- Yoshinobu Hagiwara (Ritsumeikan University, Japan)
- Jeffrey Chuan Too TAN (Nankai University, Japan)
- Yoshiaki Mizuchi (National Institute of Informatics, Japan)
CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
======================
This workshop consists of invited talks (oral session) and the poster session. We will call for short paper for the poster session with the review process. If the quality of the short paper is excellent, the paper would be presented as an oral session. After the poster session, we will have an open discussion session as remark and summary.
Participants are required to submit an extended abstract (maximum 2 pages in length). All submissions will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be presented during the workshop in a poster session. Selected papers will be presented as oral presentations.
TOPICS
======
We invite contributions in the following topics that are indicative
but by no means exhaustive:
- Virtual reality for human-robot interaction
- Augmented / Mixed reality for assistive systems
- Human and virtual agent interaction
- Cyber physical systems for human-robot interaction
- Robot competition using robot simulator
- Robot simulation for interaction/collaboration with human
- Virtual/Augmented/Mixed reality for interactive systems
- Multimodal sensor collection and learning in VR/AR/MR
- Teleoperation of semi-autonomous robots
- Tele-existence
- Intelligent Space / Smart House
