This workshop's main goal is to bring together a multidisciplinary community to identify major challenges and opportunities in the use of LLMs in HRI research for well-being.
The workshop's objectives are the following:
i) identifying the crucial challenges and opportunities of using LLMs for robotic well-being applications;
ii) exploring how LLMs integration into robots that promote well-being affect users’ perception; and
iii) integrating ethical, legal, and psychological theories and methods into the design of LLM-equipped robots for well-being.
The specific topics of this workshop seek to address the following open questions:
1. What are the main challenges and opportunities when using LLMs in robots for well-being?
This workshop aims to investigate the challenges and opportunities associated with the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) into robots designed for promoting well-being. The workshop will consider different aspects of LLM usage, addressing concerns such as data privacy, credibility and accuracy of information, data bias, interpretability of LLMs, and defining the role of LLMs in well-being contexts when embedded into robots. Concurrently, the workshop will explore the opportunities presented by leveraging LLMs in promoting well-being through human-robot interaction.
2. How does the use of LLMs in robots for well-being affect the user's perception?
This workshop seeks to gain insights on how LLMs impact users' perceptions in robots designed for well-being by investigating the experiences and perspectives of individuals interacting with LLM-equipped robots in well-being contexts. It will explore factors such as trust, likability, engagement, and usability, as well as concerns that may arise from such usage. This discussion may guide the development of responsible and user-centric design practices for integrating LLMs in robots for well-being.
3. How can we inform the design of LLM-equipped robots for well-being, grounding it in the ethical, legal, and psychology/psychiatry literature?
This workshop also explores the intersection of technology, ethics, law, and psychology/psychiatry to inform the design of LLM-equipped robots for well-being. With the collaboration and cross-fertilization of different expertises such as ethics, law, psychology and robotics, this workshop paves the way to define a comprehensive theoretical framework for the design of robots to promote well-being. This interdisciplinary approach aims to address not only the technical aspects of LLM integration but also the ethical implications, legal requirements, and psychological considerations that characterise human-robot interactions in well-being contexts.
