At CAYR's Harm Reduction Education Program, we are committed to empowering individuals and communities with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Our program provides educational tools, support, and practical strategies to reduce harm associated with substance use and promote safer behaviors. Through compassionate, non-judgmental outreach, we work to create a safer and more informed environment for everyone. Together, we can build a healthier future, one step at a time.
The SUAP Harm Reduction Education Project is dedicated to advancing harm reduction approaches and substance use support in York Region, with a focus on engaging community partners, individuals experiencing homelessness, people who use drugs, and decision-makers. Through collaboration with partner agencies, the project aims to create a more inclusive, supportive community by addressing the complexities of substance use and its intersection with sociocultural factors. The project focuses on educating service providers, healthcare workers, and law enforcement, particularly through training modules that incorporate harm reduction, trauma-informed principles, legal considerations, and crisis intervention. Key objectives include increasing knowledge and understanding, empowering individuals with lived experiences, and fostering a culture of empathy and support. The project strives to reduce stigma, improve care for individuals with substance use concerns, and promote long-term well-being by advocating for policy changes and enhanced community support.
