Hi. This is a working instruction to help people who are faced with these error messages:
Some HP printers may show error messages after automatic firmware updates.
These updates can sometimes cause compatible cartridges to stop working — even though nothing is wrong with the cartridges themselves.
If you’d like to keep using your compatible cartridges, a firmware downgrade can help fix this issue.
This is safe for your printer.
You’re simply installing an earlier official HP firmware version, with no changes to features or print quality.
Make sure to follow the final step in the instructions to turn off updates through the printer display to avoid this problem in the future.
Before you start, please note:
• These instructions are for Windows computers only (not Mac).
• Make sure your printer is connected to your computer (via Wi-Fi or USB cable).
1. Select your printer from the list below and download your fix:
*. The file is safe to use and will not harm your computer. It's previous version (1847AR) of original HP firmware for the printers from 2019 (not modified).
*No difference in perfomance, features or security - old version just does not block non-original cartridges.
2. Click on the downloaded zip archive:
3. Double click on the file inside:
4. If you receive an alert from your antivirus, simply click on "More info" and then "Run anyway":
5. When Windows asks for permission to run the file or access your network, click "Allow access":
6. Wait for 30-60 sec while updater finds your device (be sure that it connected to your computer by wi-fi or cable.
7. Select your device and click Update:
*If your printer doesn’t appear in the list, try rebooting your Wi-Fi and printer. This often helps the computer detect the printer correctly.
8. Wait for 3-5 min while it's updating. You can see the updating process on the printer display.
*If it shows "Update failed," - close the program / reboot the printer / run the installer (a few times if an error appears again). Also, please clean the printing queue.
9. Your printer may run a short maintenance process. This is normal and usually takes about 2–3 minutes — just wait until it finishes.
*If you see an error message stating "Used or counterfeit, the contents of the original HP cartridges have been depleted. If they were sold to you as new," that's ok.
The ink levels may not be displayed, but the cartridges should still function properly.
10. Last important step if you want to prevent this problem in the future at all - turn off automatic updates:
On the printer display:
Click Settings / Setup icon > Printer Maintenance / Tools >
Update the Printer > Printer Update Options > Do Not Check
*On the question "Do you want to turn on Printer Updates?" select "No" to off printer updates.
Then press Home
*If you are encountering the error message, "The app you`re trying to install isn't a Microsoft-verified app" here is a solution:
