"The Case of the Missing Soloist"

YOU are the famous detective Ace Spade and you have been called to the National Opera House to search for a missing musician........There is the manager of the theater, Ms. Nett, with more information.........

"Detective Spade, We need your help! I am so glad that you are here! My name is Clara, Clara Nett, and I am the manager of this Opera House. Iamaw Esomé, the best pianist in the world and our guest soloist tonight, HAS GONE MISSING! We cannot find him anywhere and the President of the United States is flying in from Washington D.C. to specifically see Mr. Esomé perform tonight on his violin. This is truly a disaster! I really hope Mr. Esomé is ok. Do you think you can help me?"

"You will? Thank you so much! Make sure you have your 'Clue Tracker' as you are going to need it as you gather clues to Mr. Esomé's whereabouts."

"This case is going to be so famous that you may want write a novel about the clues you learn about! Be sure to pay special attention to each location that you search for clues as the information may help you write a best seller!"

To solve this case you will need to complete the following (Refer to the Process page for more information).

    1. Search the 6 locations for clues to Mr. Esomé's whereabouts.
    2. Complete your 'Clue Tracker' as you search the various locations by answering the questions at the end of each section.
    3. Locating Mr. Esomé will cement you as the best detective to ever live. The only thing left to do is to write your novel about your adventure! Write a 1 -2 page chapter for your upcoming hit novel, Ace Spade and the Case of the Missing Soloist. Be sure to include the following:
  • The title of the Chapter.
  • Location 1: How can practice help you improve on your instrument?
  • Location 2: Name one short term goal and one long term goal that you currently have for your instrument.
  • Location 3: Describe your practice location at your residence and when you think it might be the best time for you to practice.
  • Location 4: How can using a metronome and music stand help with practice? What kind of metronome are you going to use?
  • Location 5: Which practice strategy do you think will help you the most? Why?
  • Location 6: Which resource might be most helpful for you at this moment?
  • Finally, describe the biggest take-away you had from completing this WebQuest. Are there any other activities or areas that you could use what you have learned about practice?
  • Be sure to proof read your chapter for spelling and other grammatical errors.

A few hints to help you find Mr. Esomé:

  1. For locations 1-5 (Google Slides), click on the 'Expand' button or the button that looks like an 'X' made of arrows. This will open the Google Slides presentation in full screen mode.
  2. For location 6 (Google Docs), click on the box with the arrow in the upper right hand corner. This will open the Google Doc in full screen mode.
  3. Be sure to print the 'Clue Tracker' as you will need it to help you complete the WebQuest!
  4. Make sure you look at everything. You never know where you will find a clue!

" Detective Spade, one of the orchestra members, a trombone player named Mr. Gliss, thought he saw Mr. Esomé right after the rehearsal ended this afternoon. I think we should go talk to him. We don't have much time as the concert starts in just a couple of hours. "

Location #1: The Stage

"Detective Spade, Mr. Gliss said he last saw Mr. Esomé around the stage area. Let's go look for clues! Make sure you have your 'Clue Tracker' with you!"

"Detective Spade, good work so far! The conductor, Maestro Ba Tón, said she might have seen Mr. Esomé sitting in a seat near the rear of the auditorium sometime following the rehearsal. Maestro Ba Tón is really worried that Mr. Esomé is going to miss the performance tonight! Make sure you have your 'Clue Tracker' with you!"

Location #4: The Lobby

"Whew, I am glad we are down from the balcony. We found a couple of really good clues up there though! Ms. Hertz, the sound engineer, said that she swears she saw Mr. Esomé in the lobby heading towards the restroom a few hours ago. Let's go check it out! Keep filling out those clues on the 'Clue Tracker'. I think we will need to find all of the clues to solve this case!"

Location #5: Backstage

"No luck in the lobby! It is almost time for the concert and I think we have a few more clues to find. Mr. Stubb, the ticket taker, said that he heard from Ms. Grub, the concessions manager, that she saw him backstage on her way in from the parking lot. I really hope he is back there! Grab your 'Clue Tracker' and lets go!"

Location #6: Dressing Room

" I am so stressed! We are running out of time! I feel like we are getting close though! We are just a few minutes from show time! I am not sure if we are going to solve this in time. Mr. Red, who is in charge of the curtain, is positive he saw Mr. Esomé by the dressing rooms a couple hours ago. I really hope he is back there! Our 'Clue Tracker' is almost full! This has to be it!"

"You think you solved the case? But how?"
