Get Started Today In Keeping Rheas....
Do rheas make good pets? This is a question many people ask themselves. While many people would say yes, others might disagree with this statement. The reason why some people might not think that rheas make good pets is because they do not know what a rhea is or how to take care of one.
A rhea is a large bird and can grow to be 5 feet tall and weigh up to 100 pounds. The rhea's diet consists of grasses, leaves, seed and insects. In order to take care of a rhea, you must have a large fenced in area for the bird to roam freely. Taking care of a rhea can be fun but there are also many responsibilities that come along with owning one. But if you are willing to learn about the rhea, you can figure out if it will make a good pet for you.
Are you thinking about getting a pet rhea? Here are some things you should know before you take the plunge.
Rheas make good pets. I have one named Quark. He is a great companion, and he's very low-maintenance, as pets go. He doesn't like to get wet, but he's fine in snow and rain. He needs food and water, of course. But people food is fine for him; he likes pizza and kiwi fruit. He also eats grass, berries, leaves, and roots.
My rhea is still young--only a few years old--but I've been told they can live up to 40 years! That's a long time to have another living being in your home (even if he does live outside), so you should think carefully before getting a rhea.
