Who said spring cleaning had to be stressful? Well, it doesn't - spring cleaning can be relaxing and effective when done properly.
The key to successful spring cleaning is starting with a plan. By having a plan, you create structure and ensure you stay on task to maximize your cleaning. Before the cleaning process begins, make sure you have the right supplies, such as a vacuum, cloths, dusters, and a mop. Then, create a checklist and separate it into rooms to ensure that all areas are covered. Before each room can be cleaned, there are many areas that need to be taken care of, such as baseboards, lights and ceiling fans, walls, mirrors, windows, and floors. Once you have a plan, it becomes easier to start because you know exactly what needs to be done, and the task may not seem as large after all.
Spring cleaning does not have to be as stressful as it may sound. Create a schedule that allows for breaks, so you don’t become overwhelmed or too tired to complete your tasks. Some people recommend separating different areas of your home and focusing on those areas throughout the span of a month. Spring cleaning is not meant to be a one-week job; spread tasks across certain days of the week.
Determine your goal at the beginning of each task. If the goal is to dust, then focus on dusting for the day, not organizing everything while you dust. Make sure not to pile tasks on top of each other, as that can become overwhelming and distract you from your goal.
Who said spring cleaning has to be done alone? It doesn’t. If help is needed, ask others to assist in taking the stress off one person and making the process go by faster. Lastly, many people clean to destress or because they truly enjoy it. If you feel as if cleaning is not for you, that is okay. You can hire a company to do the do the job for you; the outcome will still be the same: a clean, decluttered home.
Like many others, you may have items in your house that you no longer need. As time goes on, our piles of belongings grow, which creates unnecessary clutter in our homes. If there are items in your house that you have not used in a while, then it may be best to get rid of them. The items don’t have to be thrown in the dumpster; instead, you can sell them and make some extra money on the side.
If throwing away items is hard for you, then lay everything out in front of you and pick up each item one by one, deciding whether to keep it or not. If you're stuck on a few items, place them in a box and revisit them after some time has passed. If you haven't used any of those items, then it might be best to let them go.
In terms of clothing, if there are clothes that you have not worm within a six-month time span, then it's best to trash them, donate them, or sell them.
It is easier to clean your home from the top to the bottom to ensure that you aren’t adding dust to areas that have already been cleaned. Starting from the top helps prevent this. For example, if you clean your floors and then dust your shelves, all the dust will land on the floor, forcing you to clean twice instead of once.
You can reduce dust-related allergies and save time and energy. By cleaning from the top to the bottom, you may feel more coordinated and organized.
