CMC’s HOWL art and literary magazine has been a platform for student creativity and community storytelling since 1996. Founded by Greg Gilbert, each year it brings together students and community members who share their voices through art, photography, stories, and poetry. Each issue features a variety of creative work, some inspired by real experiences and others born from imagination and storytelling.
HOWL celebrates creativity in all its forms and continues to grow through the contributions of our students, faculty, staff, and the Hi-Desert community.
The Copper Mountain College Foundation proudly supports the printing of HOWL Art & Literary Magazine, a student-edited publication that highlights the creative voices of our campus and community.
By donating to HOWL, you help provide students with meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Your support strengthens the connection between community giving and student success, ensuring that creative and educational opportunities continue for years to come.
We welcome visual art, photography, poetry, and short stories. Our editors review all submissions with care and respect. Work is reviewed anonymously.
Please review the following submission guidelines:
Please upload clear images of your artwork or photography. You do not need professional equipment; just take care to capture your work clearly and in good light.
For digital art or photos, upload a high-quality image that is large and not blurry (around 1500 pixels on the longest side is a good reference).
If you are photographing a physical piece, such as a painting, ceramic, or sculpture, take the picture in good light, as straight on as possible, and avoid glare or filters.
If your piece is chosen and we need a clearer image or file, we will contact you for a new photo or digital copy.
