Menstrual Cups might have been invented and in use since the late 1900s but they became highly prevalent in India pretty recently. Since they have been introduced, people have had a multitude of reactions towards them. They have been questioned, doubted and objected. And now, they are slowly getting recognised, acknowledged and accepted.
Contrary to all the myths still revolving around and about period cups, they are fairly easy to use and rather effortless.
Menstrual cups have quite a lot of boons to their name. They are easy on your pocket, the environment and at the same time are very comfortable to wear.
Now that we are sure of the benefits and perks of the cup, we can say with certainty that the menstrual cups are pretty easy to use as well. There are just a few other factors that you might have to take into consideration when trying a reusable menstrual cup for the first time. One of those factors is “what size of cup should you use?”
Knowing your cup size can be a challenge at first. Many other things could be taken into account. Your age, pelvic size, if you've given birth, how you've given birth, and whether you haven't. The sizing charts might aid you in this decision-making process and provide you with some guidance.
The period cups usually come in three sizes:
Extra-small: This size is recommended for teens.
Small/Medium: This size is recommended for women who haven't given birth yet or have given birth through C-section.
Large: This size is recommended for women who have given birth through C-section.
Through the sizing chart you’ll get clarity about the size that you should use.
Now that the question about size is out of mind, the only question that remains is “how do i use it?’or “how do I put it in?”
Using the reusable menstrual cup is very simple. You just have to RELAX first. Don’t think too much into it. It might be a little uncomfortable if you’re inserting it for the first time but it won’t take long for you to get acquainted with it.
Before we get to the steps of using the period cup, don’t forget to sterilise it if you’re using a new one.
Now RELAX,
Insert the menstrual cup into the vagina while squeezing the sides of the cup together.
After inserting, you just have to give it a slight twist which is when it forms a seal and collects the menstrual fluid.
Once the cup is full, it can be removed by pinching the bottom of the cup and gently pulling out.
Empty it out, rinse it with soap and water and reinsert it.
You’re good to go!
