This project was created to support students, teachers, and schools in learning everyday Plains Cree (nêhiyawêwin).
The app combines common words and phrases with spoken audio to help learners hear, practise, and build confidence using the language both the classroom and at home.
Although the app was designed with students in mind, we are pleased that families, communities, and lifelong learners have also found it useful.

How Do You Say This in Cree was designed to help students continue learning at home, with their families, and wherever their curiosity takes them.
By combining everyday Cree phrases with spoken pronunciation, students can practise listening, speaking, and building confidence one phrase at a time.
Whether in the classroom, at the kitchen table, or on the go, every new Cree phrase learned is another step toward keeping nêhiyawêwin strong for future generations.

Designed with students in mind, How Do You Say This in Cree combines simple navigation, spoken Cree audio, and opportunities for students and community members to help the project continue to grow.
Students can quickly find common words and phrases organized into easy-to-use categories such as greetings, classroom language, family, weather, and more.
Every phrase includes spoken Cree audio, allowing students to hear pronunciation from fluent speakers and build confidence through listening.
Community members and Cree Language speakers can contribute phrases.
Students and community members can suggest new phrases, helping the app continue to grow while supporting Cree language learning for future generations.

How Do You Say This in Cree began with a simple goal: to give students another way to hear, practise, and build confidence using Plains Cree (nêhiyawêwin).
As a teacher, I wanted to create a classroom resource that students could continue using beyond the school day. By combining everyday phrases with spoken audio, the app encourages learners to hear the language, speak it with confidence, and share it with their families.
Although the app was created with students in mind, it has grown into a resource used by educators, families, and communities who share the goal of keeping nêhiyawêwin strong for future generations.
This project continues to grow through collaboration with teachers, fluent Cree speakers, and community members who generously contribute their knowledge to help future generations learn the language.
