Is in progress...
!Substance abuse is now beginning at earlier ages!
Based on a public health model, three types of strategies to prevent drug abuse can be discerned: primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
NO DRUG IS SAFE!
-Primary prevention programs (anticipation and prevention of the occurrence of drug abuse) need to be directed to upper elementary grade school children.
-Children and their parents need to understand the dangers and consequences.
- Children and their parents need resources and feel safe talking about and reporting drug abuse.
- Make TikTok accountable for not following their policies regarding underage audience/
Secondary prevention’s aim is the discontinuation of infrequent drug use and the individual’s development of social and emotional skills that focus on overall well-being.
Continuation of substance abuse is mainly a function of the type of drug as well as social and personality factors. Progression to higher-rank drugs depends mainly on the intensity of prior drug use and the adolescent brain cognition not being fully developed until they are 25. Parents must understand that though our teenagers may be taking on many new responsibilities, their brains are not fully developed, so they are not making the most responsible decisions.
