What are the best beard balms and how do you even use it to grow your beard?
A beard balm is beard oil with additional waxes (much like mustache wax) added to give your beard a great hold. Beard balm is absorbed by the skin underneath your beard, nourishing your beard and stimulating beard growth.
Before applying beard balm, you will need to wash your beard with a proper beard shampoo that has all of the essential oils that are needed for both your skin and beard. You can use jojoba oil if you want to make it yourself at home, but not everyone has the time or patience for this. If you do decide go down this path, mix olive oil, castor oil, almond oil & jojoba oil together in equal parts then store them in an airtight container.
Beard Balm acts as conditioner which will soften your beard and make it easier to manage.
Adding beard balm after you have shampooed your beard along with beard oil is next. The amount of beard oil depends on how long your beard is, if you use too much than your beard can look oily so less is better. You can also mix the beard oil with some other carrier oils like coconut oil depending on the amount of hold/shine you want for your beard, making sure that there are no clumps in the mixture .
The ratio that most people stick to is one part beard oil to two parts carrier oil however, if you find that this makes your beard too limp than try using equal parts beard oil and carrier oils together.
Preferably use beard balm after beard oil has been applied with beard comb or beard brush. Use it on your beard only, not the skin underneath the beard to avoid breakouts.
Beard brush is perfect tool for styling beard and distributing Beard Balm evenly throughout the beard hairs which will allow you to control frizziness. Using a beard brush will also stimulate the skin underneath the beard which in turn promotes hair growth.
While a mustache wax can be used instead of a beard balm , it should NOT be considered as a replacement because mustache waxes have different purpose than that of a beard balms'. You might find that some brands sell their products in both 1oz and 2oz tins for beard balms.
