I am having the same exact issue. I am trying to export an MP4 file from a GoPro, from my DropBox to my phone. I keep getting the same "Sorry this type of video cannot be saved to this device" message. Even when I try and export from DropBox to iMovie, iMovie then gives me a similar message. So I came out there, found this solution, yet I can't figure out how to get to my settings on either my phone or from my laptop, in Dropbox, to adjust export settings. Yeah, 36 hours is a long time unless it was a massive download. Check your available free space because sometimes when space gets low it can slow things down. Check also whether you might have other processes running that might be slowing down your computer..

You might additionally want to import your videos into a finder folder as a backup. iMovie libraries can sometimes get corrupted so it would be safer to have a backup outside of the iMovie structure.
