I would like to create a trigger that links to a folder on an internal company shared drive and can't figure out how to do it. I can get the URL of the folder and it looks something like this: \\drivename\shared\foldername. As expected, using http:\\drivename\shared\foldername doesn't work. I've also tried file:\\drivename\shared\foldername which also is invalid, (this syntax works as a link when using SharePoint).

What I'm hoping to do is to allow the viewer to open shared folders on network drives that they have access to directly from the SL output so they can browse files they need to complete the training. Is this possible?

I'm wondering if some sort of web-redirect might work. I can put links in a SharePoint site that can open the folders using the file:\\drivename\shared\foldername convention, and I can link to that SharePoint URL from SL so it seems like I can get something to work in that fashion. It seems like it creates another layer for the user (i.e., they are taken to SharePoint and then have click on the link there to open the folder) but it might work... I'm not savvy enough to create a web re-direct on my own that would make the folder open without the users having to deal with SharePoint.

Our company stores most of the project related files on a shared drive, which is hosted on a dedicated server in our data center. Since this is a shared drive, we can all use the same address in the file explorer to get to the folder. Is there any way (possibly also through an integration) that enables me to directly link to these folders via a click?

Great job! You now know how to create a Google Drive link. It is time to learn how to share Google drive link. This has to do with setting your permissions for each link. The process is similar for each method discussed above so that we will breeze through.

If you plan to collaborate with a group of people on a recurring basis, such as within a department or for a class, we strongly suggest creating a shared folder or a shared drive (see below). Then every item placed in this folder will automatically be shared with the group.

Shared drives are shared spaces where teams can easily store, search, and access their files anywhere, from any device. Unlike files in My Drive, files in a shared drive belong to the team instead of an individual. Even if members leave, the files stay exactly where they are so your team can continue to share information and get work done.

If you answered "yes" to both questions, creating a new shared drive is a good idea. If the files are for a variety of projects, create multiple shared drives. For a comparison of My Drive and shared drives, see Differences between My Drive and shared drives.

NOTE: Your goal is to add a shortcut to the shared folder to your My Drive menu. DO NOT create a new folder yourself and put the shared folder inside it, as that will hide the shared folder from everyone else but you.

Every Google Drive file, folder, and shared drive have associatedpermissions resources. Each resourceidentifies the permission for a specific type (user, group, domain, anyone)and role, such as "commenter" or "reader." For example, a file might have apermission granting a specific user (type=user) read-only access(role=reader) while another permission grants members of a specific group(type=group) the ability to add comments to a file (role=commenter).

Inherited permissions can't be removed from a file or folder in a shared drive.Instead these permissions must be adjusted on the direct or indirect parent fromwhich they were inherited. Inherited permissions can be removed from items under"My Drive" or "Shared with me."

The following code sample shows how to verify user permissions. The response returns a list of capabilities the user has on the file. Each capability corresponds to a fine-grained action that a user can take. Some fields are only populated for items in shared drives.

To change the role on a file or folder, you must know the source of the role. For shared drives, the source of a role can be based on membership to the shareddrive, the role on a folder, or the role on a file.

To determine the source of the role for a shared drive, or items within thatdrive, call permissions.get with thefileId, the permissionId, and the fields parameter set to thepermissionDetails field. To find the permissionId, usepermissions.list with the fileId. Tofetch the permissionDetails field on the permissions.list request, set thefields parameter to permissions/permissionDetails.

You can grant permissions on individual files or folders in a shared drive evenif the user or group is already a member. For example, Alex has role=commenteras part of their membership to a shared drive. However, your app can grant Alexrole=writer for a file in a shared drive. In this case, because the new roleis more permissive than the role granted through their membership, the newpermission becomes the effective role for the file or folder.

Ownership of files existing in "My Drive" can be transferred fromone Google Workspace account to another account in the same organization. An organization that owns a shareddrive owns the files within it. Therefore, ownership transfers are not supportedfor files and folders in shared drives. Organizers of a shared drive can moveitems from that shared drive and into their own "My Drive" whichtransfers the ownership to them.

Your administrator defines the maximum actions that shared link recipients can take separately for files, folders, and Box Notes and also defines the default choice for each when more than one choice is made available.

Finally, you can remove or cancel a shared link. To do this, from the Share window, click the Share Link slider to move it to the left. The slider color changes from blue to grey.

When a collaborator has more restrictive access to a file that that is given through a shared link, the collaborator gains the permissions provided by the link when accessing a file with the link. For example, a user collaborating on a file you own has just the Viewer collaborator role. You create a shared link and allow View and download. If that user accesses the file with the shared link, rather than directly, they could both view and download the file.

Out of curiosity I clicked it to see what happens; it added a link to the shared folder to my OneDrive under "My Files". My OneDrive is synced to my local machine using the OneDrive sync client so the link to the shared folder is now also synced to my local machine.

I decided I didn't want to have a link to the shared folder in my OneDrive so I right clicked the synced linked folder and clicked "Remove Shortcut" - the OneDrive sync client notified me that it was removing the shortcut.

Hi there. In premiere pro CC, I'm trying to link media that has been changed or moved to a project. The media I'm looking for is on a network drive. When I click on "locate media" I am unable to browse to the netwok drive as there are simply no drives showing up under the "network drives" dropdown. Any ideas on how to make Permiere see my network to locate these files? Thanks in advance. BB.

We work with a NAS server. And since I have a new computer Premiere Pro crashes as soon as I open an old timeline. It seems like premiere can't find the files from the server. I can't even link myself because premiere crashes right away. So there is no error message but it crashes right away. Does anyone have a solution for this? On the other computers it works this way.

Yes is on the server, tried everything to make clear to Premiere that it has to read the files from the server. As soon as I open Premiere it crashes, downloaded a new version, tried several options and nothing works, while my colleagues work exactly this way. Also tried copying the auto-saves to the local drive of my PC but that didn't work either. Win 11 Home (64 bit), Premiere version is 24.0. 32GB ram, 13th gen Core i9 (3 ghz), GeForce RTX 3080.

Shareable links can be used to share files with a broader audience or specific people. These links are accessible and customizable under General access in the sharing dialog box. When you click Copy link, a shared link is copied. Link sharing is useful for sharing non-sensitive files that require immediate attention or with large numbers of colleagues who need access to a file. If link sharing is used, this link is set to Restricted by default, so only people you've shared the file with can access the link.

When sharing with a non-Google account, we strongly recommend using visitor sharing. With visitor sharing, you can share items with non-Google accounts, enabling them to view, comment on, or edit content in Google Drive (My Drive and shared drives) and Sites using a secure PIN code. As a file owner, you can view detailed activity on your files and revoke access from the Drive sharing dialog at any time.

Note: Visitors can edit, comment on, or view your files for seven days after they verify their email address. After seven days, they will need to reverify using the original shared link in their email invite, so it's best to remind them to save the email!

I have a need to add a hyperlink in a wikipage to open a file in a shared drive. Uploading the file to SharePoint is not an option in this case (due to record compliance, intranet in SP now - document management in SP with a proper taxonomy and R&D later).

I've also had trouble linking to shared drives in older SharePoint versions. It tends to flip all of my backslashes (\) to forward slashes (/), thus turning the file path into a URL.Sometimes this occurred while editing, sometimes after saving. To determine if this is the issue, hover over the link after saving or publishing to confirm all of your slashes are properly faced.I'm not seeing this issue in SharePoint 2013.

It sounds like a "so what?" type of correction but if the link to your network drive and/or folder includes PDFS... they won't open unless the Acrobat program you use allows PDF files to access all web sites. ff782bc1db
