Basically tht title. If you don't have cloud saves and paid for online, and you get the oled switch for example, you're just screwed. You're 1000 hours on breath of the wild and all the amiibo outfits? Gone. No way of getting them over the another console. Why.

(Edit. If youre trading in your switch, or your switch is broken, you can't do a system to system transfer. Be careful if you buy an oled switch and trade in your old one. Make sure you back up your saves on the cloud and have had an active subscription that hasn't lapsed for over 6 months as they will delete those saves. )

Cloud saves will be turned on automatically for all games on your Nintendo Switch, however, they won't back up unless you play the game and save after cloud saves have been activated. You can also back these up manually.

Having a Nintendo Switch Online subscription and cloud saves turned on also means you can log onto a Switch that isn't your own with your Nintendo Account and access all of your digital purchases and redownload your saved data. Simply create a new profile on the other Switch and link your Nintendo Account to it. This will not disrupt your main account.

Cloud Save is one of the biggest features of the new Nintendo Switch Online service. The ability to backup your save files to make room on your Switch for other titles is an ideal solution for storing the massive amount of games offered on the hybrid console. It's also the best way to keep your save files if your Switch is lost, stolen or broken.

After you've updated your Switch to version 6.0, games that are compatible with Cloud Saves (sorry, Splatoon 2) will backup automatically. However, if you want to be sure they are being saved you can follow these steps.

To enable or disable cloud saves, you can go to the specific software's options from the home menu like the last section says. But you can do a mass enabling or disabling of the cloud saves through another way.

Again, these steps are self-explanatory but it should be noted that if you cancel your membership to the service, or it expires, Nintendo doesn't guarantee your cloud saves will be there if you sign back in.

I got an OLED Switch the other day, and after a lot of messing about, and doing every game one by one, I finally managed to get all my games and save data transferred across from my original to the new one.

@GuruOfGreatness Hmmm. I wonder if the game is trying to sync with the Switch Online cloud for backup, but is getting stuck? I'm not sure how to troubleshoot that. Don't know if you've got a random glitch, or if there's an issue with a Nintendo cloud server?

K so I figured it out. It says "The current backup and download status of your save data is displayed here. For more information, go to the HOME Menu and open the Options menu for the software, then select Save Data Cloud"

5. Now from there we have 2 methods to fix this issue. You can select backup save data or Download save data. If your trying to fix this because you moved over to a new switch and are trying to carry over your save data press on DOWNLOAD. However if you were in my situation i had the game on my switch already but was getting the error. All i did was select BACKUP and it overwrites the files on Nintendo's save data cloud with the files currently on your nintendo switch. Once it finishes the error was completely gone for me

Ever since the Nintendo Switch firmware version 6.0.0 was released alongside the Nintendo Switch Online service, Switch users can access cloud-saves. While some may prefer to back up saves locally on the console or a microSD card, saving to the cloud might be safer if you're worried about something happening to your Nintendo Switch or local storage. With cloud storage now available, you don't have to worry about losing that Zelda game you dedicated so many hours to.

From the Save Data Cloud screen, you can select Settings, then move the selector to the right, select Automatic Save-Data Backup, and press the A button to turn this feature on or off. When this is enabled, your Switch will automatically back up all save data for the games that allow cloud saves. Automatic backup is probably the easiest way to handle your save data; set this to "On" and forget all about it until you need that backup.

Pro-tip: You can also get directly to this menu from the Home screen by pressing the plus (+) button while the selector is on the game, then selecting the profile of the data you'd like to save or download.

[Update Sept. 25: Nintendo has now confirmed to IGN that it will retain players' cloud saves for six months after they cancel their subscription. "Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups," the statement reads, in part.

This seems to be a reversal of Nintendo's previous plans, especially since a Nintendo UK FAQ still says, "Save data stored with Save Data Cloud cannot be kept outside of the duration of your Nintendo Switch Online membership." The new policy puts Nintendo in line with Sony, which also retains cloud saves for six months after a PlayStation Plus subscription lapses.]

Nintendo Switch game save data stored in the cloud is only available "as long as you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership." If you eventually cancel the $20/year subscription, Nintendo is "unable to guarantee that cloud save data will be retained after an extended period of time from when your membership is ended."

Nintendo differs from its console competitors in how it handles online save data. Cloud saves on PlayStation systems remain accessible for six months after you cancel a paid PlayStation Plus account. Cloud saves are offered for free in perpetuity on Xbox Live.

"While we have nothing additional to announce on this topic [of local save backups], please be assured that we listen carefully to the feedback from our customers.," the company writes. "We are constantly working on ways to further enhance the experience of using the system."

Nintendo notes on its site that cloud saves will work with "the vast majority of Nintendo Switch games." More details on which specific games are not supported won't be available until the service launches on Sept. 18, despite early leaks suggesting some unsupported games.

After updating your Animal Crossing: New Horizons software to the latest version, you will be able to transfer your island save data or individual resident to a new Nintendo Switch console. See How to Transfer Animal Crossing: New Horizons Save Data for full details on the different options to transfer save data.

Island backup saves your island data and progress to our servers so that your data is stored in the event that you lose access to your Nintendo Switch console. If this happens, you can restore your island on a repaired or replacement Nintendo Switch console. Island backup is not enabled by default, so you will need to enable it in the in-game settings. For more information, see How to Back Up and Restore Island Save Data (Animal Crossing: New Horizons).

To enable island backup, you need a Nintendo Account that has an active Nintendo Switch Online membership and that has created a resident on the island. Only one island resident can enable island backup, but the island data and progress will be backed up for all players in the event that it needs to be restored.

After island backup is enabled, your island data is saved periodically when your Nintendo Switch console is connected to the internet and no one is playing the game on your console. The last time your island was backed up will be displayed in the bottom-left corner of the title screen.

If you have replaced your Nintendo Switch console after it was lost or damaged, or if your console has been repaired, you can restore you island data using the same Nintendo Account that enabled island backup. For more information, see How to Back Up and Restore Island Save Data (Animal Crossing: New Horizons).

When a full island transfer is completed, all island save data, progress, animal neighbours, residents, residents' inventories and homes are transferred to the new console. No Animal Crossing: New Horizons save data will remain on the original console.

Is everything up to date? The automatic cloud backup for your savegames is automatically enabled. Please note that your backup saves are only available for a limited time after the expiration or cancellation of your subscription.

It seems likely that Nintendo was planning to detail their paid online plans, scheduled to go live this month, during their now-delayed Nintendo Direct. Much like the accidental misfire with Yoshi's Crafting World, some things have gone live on the website ahead of announcement, including some small details on the cloud saving. While Nintendo had previously said that not all games would support it, we now know a few Switch games do not have cloud saves.

On the page for Pokmon Let's Go Eevee & Pikachu, a message at the bottom indicates that cloud saves are a no-go for the two Nintendo-published games. The warning reads "Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and Nintendo Account required for online play. This game does not support Save Data Cloud backup. Not available in all countries. Internet access required for online features." This warning is also on the page for Splatoon 2.

When it comes to kids, parents know to expect the unexpected! Accidents can cause your save data to disappear. But with Nintendo Switch Online, your save data is automatically backed up in the cloud and stored online for compatible games. This makes it easy to retrieve your game data if you lose your system or start using a new one. Even if your console breaks, your game data will be safe from harm. 2351a5e196
