That means you can start playing with your PlayStation console connected to a TV, pause your game and access the PS Remote Play app on your chosen device, and your game will be there, ready to keep playing from exactly where you left it. Or you can switch on your PlayStation console and start playing directly from the app, with no need to ever switch on your TV.

Remote Play is a feature of Sony video game consoles that allow the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 to transmit video and audio output to another device; previously this could only be a PlayStation Portable or PlayStation Vita. In 2014, it was expanded to include the use of PlayStation TV, Xperia smartphones and tablets (Z2 and later), and PlayStation Now. In 2016, it was expanded to Microsoft Windows PCs and macOS. In 2019, support for Android and iOS devices was eventually added. Support for remote play of PlayStation 5 games to other devices was added in November 2020 just prior to the new console's launch.

"Remote Play allows a PSP system to connect wirelessly to a PS3 system and transfers some functionality of the PS3 to the PSP system. With remote play, a PSP system may access files that are located on the PS3, as well as, play certain software titles ..."[1]

In June 2013, Sony announced that all PlayStation 4 games would be compatible with Remote Play with the PS Vita, with the exception of games which conceptually would not work, such as ones that heavily revolve around PlayStation Eye use.[15] Otherwise, contrary to PS3 to PS Vita Remote Play, PS4 to PS Vita Remote Play is designed on a hardware level, meaning that all games are automatically compatible, and it is only up to developers to make sure the controls adapt well to being played on a Vita instead of a DualShock 4.[15] This iteration of Remote Play was developed by Gaikai,[17] who also developed PlayStation Now.[18] Remote Play on the updated PlayStation Vita 2000 was shown at Tokyo Game Show in 2013.[19]

PS4 firmware update 1.70 introduced full remote play functionality for the PlayStation TV, allowing users to play PS4 games in a separate room or house, on a television set with a PS TV device remotely connected to the PS4.[20][21]

Remote Play with the PS4 is available for Android smartphones and tablet computers running Android 5.0 Lollipop or later, and requires a DualShock 4 in order to play games. The service was made available on 28 October 2014, exclusively on Sony's Xperia Z3 series phones,[22][23] and was expanded to Sony's older Z2 series a month later.[24] In October 2019, support was expanded to all Android smartphones with the release of PS4 system software 7.00.[25]

Cloud gaming and Remote Play are some of several Gaikai-powered streaming services announced for the PlayStation 4 through its PlayStation Now service.[27] Cloud gaming differs from Remote Play in that Remote Play allows games on home devices to operate remotely over a wireless network,[28] while cloud gaming refers to a game that resides on a distant server rather than on a user's device.[29]

In 2007, Sony made all original PlayStation games, when played on a PlayStation 3, compatible with Remote Play on the PSP.[8] Additionally, Sony announced that all PlayStation 4 games will be playable on the PlayStation Vita.[2] Beyond these two scenarios, Remote Play was a feature that was sparingly implemented in games. The below chart indicates instances when Remote Play on PS3 is an available feature.

Simply download and set up PS Remote Play to gain remote access to your console using a phone, PC or tablet. Optionally, once everything is set up, you can connect a PS5 Dual Sense controller or PS4 Dual Shock controller to increase precision and immersion.

@maximas1986What hardware? Phone? Tablet? I used it on my Galaxy Tab S7 Plus & I couldn't even use it away from home! At home yes it was laggy & I had anywhere from PS2 - PS3 like graphics. I uninstalled it after trying to play a game of Apex on it.

@Cheese9ManIt was way better then ?! I actually kinda find myself regretting that I didn't try playing a Vita. I loved my PSP but sold it when I noticed I was playing it less. Plus if the case on the games cracked open, they would never play again. That happened to 2 of my games & I was like nope I'm done lol. But Vita used a different format

I have a fresh install of Emby Server on Windows. From the web browser I am trying to use Emby as a DLNA controller to play any .TS file on my Sony Blu-ray player (UBP-X800M2) via Direct Play (no transcoding).

However if I try to use the browser to select the UBP-X800M2 and play the TS files there is an exception thrown in the log. I have no issues using the browser as a DLNA controller to play any of my MKV or MP4 files. Only the TS files have an issue.

I am able to use JRiver as a DLNA controller to direct play these files on my UBP-X800M2 so I know it is not a compatibility problem. However, if it is only an Emby configuration issue (DLNA profile incorrect, etc) I am unsure how to solve it.

With the launch of the Steam Deck, players now have a portable gaming solution for PC games. Still, Steam's Remote Play feature allows you to stream games from your computer to your Deck in the same way that Steam Link lets you play games on your phone. But why would you ever need to stream games to a console when you can just play locally?

Games must be compatible with the Steam Deck before you can play them. Valve has verified many games to ensure they run correctly. However, Remote Play can also help your experience with smaller indies that have not been optimized for the Deck because the game will technically be running on your PC.

When using Xbox Game Streaming, your game runs on an Xbox server in an Azure datacenter. The user is connected to the closest datacenter, and then the game plays from there. When using Xbox Remote Play, your game runs on the user's Xbox console. The user connects directly to their home Xbox console, and then the game plays from there.

The most prominent selling point of the Steam Deck is that users can take it anywhere and play a vast library of verified and playable games on the handheld. It is a clever device that can be used as a desktop with the right tools and applications.

Moreover, the machine can run some demanding Triple-A games without issues. The Steam Deck's portability goes even further than its handheld mode. Users can play it remotely on a PC screen, giving the machine more usability when it comes to compatibility.

Updated on December 18, 2023, by Michael Llewellyn: The Steam Deck offers players several methods to play on a PC or a TV screen. One of the most convenient ways to play the device on a PC as a second screen is by using remote play. Steam Deck users must have a capable PC or laptop and a good connection to get the best out of remote play. This guide is updated to include new links for Steam Deck players and some extra tips to get the best out of the PC.

Playing Steam Deck remotely is a practical feature for those who don't always want to play their games in handheld mode. However, some limitations apply to playing remotely, and getting it to work will depend on how capable a player's PC or laptop is at running games and how good their Wi-Fi connection is at the time. Assuming that users have a capable PC for the stream and a powerful internet connection with a good router, use the following steps to play Steam Deck remotely:

Michael has been writing about entertainment since 2016, but he's been a gamer since playing Pac-Man in the arcade, Kings Quest 3 on the PC, and the Sega Master System he got from his late father.

In addition to loving gaming, Mike is an avid movie fan - especially cheesy 80s and 90s action films. He also loves watching wrestling, MMA, and anything with Star Wars, including the sequel trilogy. His favourite TV shows include Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, The Boys, Dexter, and Only Fools and Horses.

Mike's favourite gaming genres are JRPG and RPGs. He fell in love with them after playing Final Fantasy 7 and made it his mission to collect as many as possible back in the early 2000s. Michael grew up a wrestling and boxing fan, so he loves wrestling, boxing, and UFC games because they have different a pace to regular fighting games.

Yes. The PlayStation Portal Remote Player can be enjoyed on your home Wi-Fi network or any broadband internet Wi-Fi connection with at least 5Mbps. While using your home Wi-Fi network allows you to have control over the quality of your gaming experience, it is not a requirement. For an enhanced play experience, it is recommended to have a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps. However, if you choose to use public Wi-Fi, keep in mind that the quality of the internet connection may vary and could affect your gaming experience.

No. You do not need a PlayStation Plus membership to use the PlayStation Portal and PlayStation Remote Play. However, if you want to play a game that requires a PS Plus membership for multiplayer access, you will need an active membership to enjoy the multiplayer features of that game.

Convenience - Obviously, Remote Play Steam offers great convenience for game playing, as it saves your time and patience to download and install again and again on the new device. You can even enjoy Steam Remote Play on phone!

You can now use AirDroid Cast as an alternative to Steam Remote Play. AirDroid Cast is a screen sharing and controlling tool that allows you to share mobile and computer screens to a larger display and even take direct control of mobile devices on a computer. It supports screen casting from your phone screens (Android/iOS) or PC screens (Windows/Mac), making it suitable for game streaming.

With Steam Remote Play, playing video games and streaming them is no longer a problem. Whereas with AirDroid Cast, casting it on any device is no longer an issue. This app offers the users a relief to play games on even bigger screens and consoles on the go irrespective of physical presence near the gaming devices. 2351a5e196
