I offloaded the app and reinstall it and tried to backup and it worked well. But it worked only once. Now, again I'm trying to backup, it keeps saying "Preparing..." and never completes the process ever, and now offloading and reinstalling the app is also not working at all!

I found a working way to backup the chat but it's a workaround only as the inbuilt chat backup should function in a natural way rather than having a workaround, anyways I am sharing it here because it worked for me (I tested it twice).

I contacted Whatsapp official guys but they kept telling me that there is an ongoing issue with Whatsapp and will be fixed soon but these guys are telling lies. No fix has been given till this date. Unfortunately, I deleted that email.

I followed the workaround but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. The last backup was 12/23/2022. I hope the problem is solved by Apple or Whatsapp. At the beginning of December I also had contact with Whatsapp, but there is no solution.

What i did was remove the auto lock. By so doing, the phone doesn't lock when you tap backup. So, tap backup and leave the whatsapp app open. I usually leave it on the backup page until its done. I hope this helps

Today I went to the official Apple Store in Mexico City. My iPhone has been having the unresponsive touch screen issue. They said that the only solution offered by Apple is to replace the entire phone, which is fine with me. However, I need to have a backup of my WhatsApp chats.

I asked the Apple guy if I would be able to restore my messages from an iTunes backup. He said "absolutely not" and that WhatsApp messages can only be restored from an iCloud backup. I got home and decided to Google it. According to the WhatsApp website, you CAN restore your WhatsApp chats by using iTunes.

Ok gotcha. So iTunes will save all 3rd-party app data unless that app's data has been marked by the app itself to not be saved as part of a backup. I can say that 99.9% of the time iTunes does backup the app data since there are very few reasons apps will deliberately flag themselves to iTunes to not save the data. I can't imagine that WhatsApp is one of them that would do that.

Apple should RECOMMEND THIS POST because there is ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT that it works!!! The reason I say that Apple should recommend this post is because I Googled the same question hundreds of times in different ways, and half of the websites out there said that it would not work, and that iCloud was the only way. Everyone who reads this post can rest assured that it DOES WORK!!! However, I should mention that I chose to do an ENCRYPTED BACKUP. Unfortunately, I don't know if a normal backup will work.

If anyone out there reading this post has done a normal (non encrypted) iTunes backup, it would be great if they were to post on this thread and let everyone know what the results were! I'm sure a lot of people would be very thankful!

Im struggling to understand the setup, we use Sophos Central to to manage our mobile Devices.. its set up to comply with GDPR.

My colleagues really love their Whatsapp.. and its a nightmare if the history gets lost. I'm now wondering if there is any way to do so? On iOS Whatsapp works but has no access to the users phone book, however Chat Backup is disabled in the settings, and managed by Sophos not able to be turned on.

Settings within WhatsApp will need to be controlled using the "Managed Configuration" options for the app. Looking into the configuration options available for WhatsApp currently, backup configuration is not currently possible.

Hey guys, Nearly every morning I get WhatsApp notifications for it's chat backup since 2 weeks. Means it vibrates for a minute showing 3%, 8% until it finishes. Each is handled as an own notification. Any idea? Mi band 6 on latest firmware and app is updated as well.

By default, when you create an iOS backup on Mac (Catalina in my case), it is stored under ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/. This folder contains sub-folders with unique device identifiers. Each sub-folder is a backup and contains a bunch of additional subfolders along with the following 4 important files:

The only problem is that the Manifest.db file is encrypted and we need to use the information from the Manifest.plist file to decrypt it. If the backup was not encrypted, we could have probably gotten away without making use of the Manifest.plist file.

What would be the best way to go about this? A 2 way sync?That might be safe and count as a backup sincd I cannot imagine a situation where my WhatsApp phone data gets erased, but SyncThing is still running on the phone and syncs 2 way with the server, deleting all those files. But maybe it is a risk?Are there other ways to configure SyncThing for this particular case?

I use ST to send both WhatsApp (/storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp) and Signal (/storage/emulated/0/Signal/Backups) to my RaspberryPI 3B. I only start ST after both apps have done their daily backup and then turn it off. Both folders are default send/receive on the phone and PI. A daily rclone cron job on the PI sends the backups to rsync.net, which has ZFS immutable snapshots of the last 7 days.

Restoring Whatsapp backup is driving me crazy, it doesn't detect local backups and when I get asked to select the account to choose the box is empty and there is just "add account".

Tried to remove and sync account from that box, nothing happened.

grapheneosuser I've performed a local backup recovery absolutely fine the first and only time I needed it, so it's probably not Graphene but something else of your configuration. Do you have Google Services enabled?

Sounds like you want to restore your Google Drive cloud backup of WhatsApp.

In this case you need to uninstall WhatsApp, install Sandboxed Google Play and login to your Google account.

Only after that you shall download WhatsApp from Play Store and try to restore your cloud backup.

grapheneosuser copy the entire com.whatsapp file, a few levels up from the ones you've copied, and see what happens. It's worked for me when I was having issues before copying and pasting individual folders

I have a pixel 7 and had the same issue.

The local backup must be placed in /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/ in older Android versions was directly on /WhatsApp/

I cleared all app data, put all the old files in this folder and then after doing the setup i got the recover prompt

I am currently having these issues. I have tried many things, but nothing works for now. Can you confirm the following path is what you have done, and if not, could you correct me please ? It would really help me ! I can't really try it since I've requested to move my account litterally too many times and I now have like 15 minutes between each new code, and I'm afraid not to be able to do it again haha

0-download the APK from whatsapp.com/android without installing it

1-copy the entire com.whatsapp folder from the old phone into my pc

2-create /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/ on the pixel 7 without whatsapp installed

3-copy the com.whatsapp folder into it, leading to the following path : /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/com.whatsapp (that is where I don't really know, should I copy the whole com.whatsap folder or the 3 subfolder into Whatsapp, leading to /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media , /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Databases, etc ? )

4-install whatsapp by cliking on the APK

5-following the instructions and asking for a new code

On my older phone, Whatsapp stored files in /Android/data/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/ and so I put the data in the exact same folder in my new phone, without sucess : no restore prompt. As you wrote, the data has to be in /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/ in order to Whatsapp to be able to find the backup :-)

You need to replicate the folder structure as it was on the old device, so no leading, copy the 3 folders directly into the WhatsApp folder in Android/media/com.whatsapp. I've also found it necessary to disable backup encryption temporarily (disable Drive backup before doing that) and, oddly, to wait for the backup size calculation to complete when it offers to restore the local backup. It only offers to restore after confirming your number.

Curious if anyone has tried backing up and restoring their WA accounts recently. I tried the method listed, copying the backups to my new device at /Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp but this is not working. ff782bc1db
