Unlike downloading from Youtube, where copyright issues may exist or not dependant on content, it is an offence under the law to bypass the DRM arrangements the BBC chose to use. It breaks th BBC terms of you using Iplayer and your TV licence, but I am unaware if this has been tested in court. There are video screen grabbing software that can work on Iplayer, but advising on one may be very problematic.

On the recordings from a BBC program, you are not legally meant to record any output, but the Tivo service has a license to allow the recording to their HD. With all copyright material the issue is reuse for profit . However in the UK so far there is no opt out like the States where a recording can be made for home study purposes, plus personal viewing. BBC material belongs to them, plain, simple and backed up by law.

How To Download From Bbc Iplayer To Keep

I think the serious hacker would record from the live feed anyway, rather than the Iplayer, which is not available outside the UK. Nobody is going to stop an image being recorded in some way or another, most of the DRM is a smoke screen to scare off the more amateur copyists.

As the title says, I'm hoping to keep a digital copy of a programme which will be on the beeb later this month. My girlfriend is going to be on it, and I'd quite like to be able to keep them for posterity (and pulling out at a later date to embarrass). However, I know that downloads from iPlayer have DRM in place to make them auto-expire after a certain amount of time, to prevent you from downloading everything and never buying DVDs. As I say, this isn't really for pirate-y purposes, but I'm definitely not above some sailing and pillaging if there's no legit method of doing this.

A word of warning. You are NOT permitted under BBC licence terms to keep your download for longer than the programme appears on the iPlayer. Even get_iPlayer will remind you of this if you keep files for too long.

As an observation, the request to remove a recording after 30 days is inconsistent with recording live material onto my Virgin Tivo box, where I can keep recordings ad infinitum and, albeit in a time-consuming and archaic manner, save that content to DVD.

One other thing to bear in mind is that although the BBC turns a blind eye to get_iplayer usage, it is not in any way supported and is always susceptible to unexpected changes in the way the BBC streams its content. In other words, reliability is in no way guaranteed or even expected!

Ever since I updated to IOS 6, the latest BBC iPlayer App (ver 2.0) keeps restarting after a varied amount of time making it unusable. I have tried to contact the BBC over this matter but all I receive are electronic responses saying no individual reply to the problem can be given. I've maintained a 'watch' of the BBC iPlayer website but no updated information is given by them, or indeed any admission that there is any problem with their latest software.

I have this problem too, it's driving me crazy. Just tried to watch something and it restarted every few mins. I have emailed bbc iplayer help but I don't expect a reply. I have the same stats as you , it's happened since update to iOS 6 , never happened before that. I have same ipad and also bt infinity, also in manchester not that I suppose that should make a difference! I would love to get this sorted as I use iplayer all the time. As I said its driving me crazy. The player bar at the bottom goes all out of sync also if I leave it to play through and when it gets to the end it just stays there but continues playing.

If you check the reviews of the iPlayer App at the App Store it seems the very poor reviews outnumber the good ones by at least 80 to 20, so it's in the BBC's interest to come up with a fix. Will keep you informed if I hear anything.

Well this problem is baffling but good to see your ok with it Peter and thanks for your comments. The 'vast' majority aren't and before I updated to the latest iPlayer software I was enjoying too! A friend of mine from Huntingdon is having the same problem as me but my son's girlfriend who uses her ipad with our wifi is fine but she never updated to IOS6 or the latest iPlayer upgrade. What I cannot understand is why the BBC have not commented even to say its not their software at fault, if they believe this to be the case. Again I refer to the App Store and iPlayer review section to gain a true reflection of the scale of the problem. Why is it all the other tv channel apps work seamlessly? Difficult one!

I did a Little mre experimentation and saw the same issue on chrome using a win7 laptop. But here s the kicker after a stall, the browser version of iplayer continues at the correct point instead of returning to the start.

Hi @g0akc It may be the Auto Power of which has caused the issue . If still problems Are you using the Beta version of iplayer or the standard version, you could check the other version to see if that makes any difference. Another idea would be a Factory Reset.

This fault has occurred again tonight. The TV had been working alright through the day, with a Virgin Media box (watching sports and Netflix). I switched to using the TVs own app for BBC iPlayer. About 40 minutes into a programme and issue happened - TV switched itself off. I had to power back on from standby and resume (I resumed the programme on the Virgin box copy of the app instead of on the telly itself).

If you're using a mobile or tablet, open your device's internet browser and follow the steps above. If you're using BBC iPlayer on a connected TV, you'll need to access the BBC iPlayer website either on a computer, laptop, mobile or tablet to remove items from Continue Watching.

When you remove items from your Continue Watching list, or clear the Continue Watching history, it will update on your account across all devices that you're signed in on. You might need to close and reopen the BBC iPlayer app to see your updated Continue Watching list.

My conjecture is that the software in the Roku device and iPlayer respectively have an incompatability, perhaps a timeout set to too low a value. Either the Roku is giving up too soon when expecting a communication from iPlayer, or the reverse. The fact that Netflix and ITV3 work perfectly makes me think that the bug is more likely to be in the iPlayer software, but this is not necessarily the case.

I know that I am not currently a TV triallist although I have been in the past. I am evry interested in this problem as I have had similar issues which I have not been able to resolve with the forum OCEs. In fact I am expecting a replacment box today. It occurs to me that if the same problem is happening on two boxes in the same house then the cause may be due to something outside of the STBs themselves. As I have been investigating this problem I read somewhere that (with another make of box) these kind of affects had been traced to having too high a signal strength. I have today looked at the Youview discussion on signal strength in which they suggest the anything over 75% can be as bad as having too low a value. In the past I have tried to boost my signal to as close to 100% as possible but, in the light of this information have reduced my signal strength to around 75% for most of the channels I regularly watch / record. I realise that you are seeing the effect on iplayer but of course the STB is also busy dealing with the terrestial transmissions at the same time. I wonder what signal strength you have? Also I would be interested in the TT TV technical people's view on what is the optimum signal strength for the DN372T.
