When I look at the "Recents"-tab on my iPhone 5, I can see about 100 call entries. But when I delete a call an older call moves up. So, older calls must be stored somewhere. Is there a way to recover the call history without deleting calls?

No, but you can log in to your cellular provider's website and see the call history for at least 18 months. Many carriers go beyond, some up to 6 years. Many providers have an app that contains this information also. And the carrier's info is much more detailed than the "recents" tab, including time, duration and cost. The purpose of the "recents" tab is not to provide a view into your history; rather, it is a shortcut for making callbacks.

If you have an iPhone, you may have noticed that you cannot view your entire call history in your Phone app. This can be problematic if you need to find a specific call record or have lost a phone number you used to dial regularly. In this article, we will teach you how to use your iPhone's Phone app to show more of your call history and how to get your call history from your carrier or via an iCloud backup.

Is there a way to see the call history for a specific contact without having to scroll all the way through all my recent calls? Would love to have their history paired with the contact itself in my contacts.

I'm looking to do this right on my phone at the point in time where another unknown number call has just come in (when did this number last call me, and how often?) It's a way of guarding against someone being stalker-ish, or reviewing how often someone has tried to reach me (or vice versa.) I could do it easily on my previous phone (an ancient flip phone!) Each number still in 'recents' had a single tap link to all connected history for the same number (completed in or out, and missed calls.) If a contact had multiple numbers, clicking the most recent call log history tag pulled up all the related calls in a list as far back as the recent file went (usually about 30-60 days worth.)

Formulating the requirement that way allows the possibility of multiple implementations, some of which may be much more acceptable to Apple than breaking call log sharing because "that's the way it was before." Perhaps Apple could be convinced to see a filtering control as a way of enhancing the call log sharing feature, while the posters here could be convinced to see it as a way to get unwanted entries from other phones off their screens.

I want to recover my recent call history which disappeared after installing iOS 17. I have tried a full shutdown and restart, turning airplane mode on and off, checking that the clock is on automatic, but none of these measures resolved the issue. Please advise as how to proceed. Thank you in advance for any assistance anyone can offer.

Same problem - after doing an automatic update all my phone call history is gone and now NO calls are showing up in recent after I make them. This is crap - i use it all the time as a call record. Please fix this

If you erased or restored, you will need to install a backup that includes the call history to get it back. If you got a new number during this time frame, you will not be able to retrieve the call history for that number.

The phone stores maybe as much as 1000 calls in its internal memory. You can only see 100 at a time, after reboot, and less if you have deleted some items from you recent call history. The phone gives you its latest list of un-deleted calls.

The point is, that some users want to see older call history in the list. To do that, clear out duplicates and other unwanted calls from the list, then poser cycle the phone. You may have to do this multiple times until all the calls in you list of 100 are the ones you want handy.

I know the iphone keeps a call history in "Recents" of all the calls you have made to "all" numbers, however it appears that Apple has not provided the ability to go into an "individual" contact and view the call history for just that contact. eg. I know I rang a friend a couple of times during the last few months, but I needed to clarify exactly when those calls were made exactly. The information is actually in the iphone - but its just not linked and sorted via the iphone contacts list.

Is there a simple App out there that can do this (and not a full blown CRM app)? However I have heard that Apple has restricted developers from accessing this call history information on the iphone .... which makes app development in this area a little bit hard.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes the comms carriers are the last resort, if one gets really desparate. However since all the information is already being stored on the iphone, all be it, in a different order, it just seems a bit odd that Apple don't provide a tweak to provide this information in a much more easily accessible format ...... as opposed to downloading phone records from a third party and filtering for the number you want. If enough people feel that this is a feature worth having - maybe Apple will provide this minor tweak. I think they used to provide it in a limited format back in 2010.!!! e24fc04721
